One of the OOTP community's longer running leagues, The RLPA has a few openings for its 1999 season. RLPA is in it's 10th year simming after starting with a group of associates brought together at Baseball Think Factory. Our website and forum is located at RLPA - Home

RLPA Reboot, an historical league, was based on the model of our highly successful RLPA Classic league. The Reboot started with the 1985 season and contains 28 real-life teams. We do not use managers, personnel or scouting. We manually create each new draftee to make sure that the ratings are all realistic when each player enters the league. Additionally, each draft pool considers MLEs to make draftees as realistic as possible. We have not altered the game-generated personality or injury ratings. Also, the league will have the normal average rating of 100 for talent changes, which has introduced that great element of chance so that some great players have failed miserably while others have become stars.

Our finances are not historically accurate. Our tradition (through 40 simmed years of RLPA) has been to have a soft-cap set at $80 million dollars. All our markets are of equal size, so there is not an inherent advantage to being in New York as opposed to Cincinnati.

You can take a look at our website at RLPA - Home

We think that you will really enjoy our community.
Hope to hear from you or see you on the RLPA forums,

Our available teams are:

Boston (85-77 in 1998, 3rd in ALE, 17 gb) -- A solid team before it encountered ownership problem. Offense features good young players like Luis Castillo, Mark Bellhorn, Eli Marrero, plus good veteran hitters like Jeff Kent, Derrick May and Midre Cummings. Top of the rotation with Hideo Nom, Steve Trachasel and Sam Miletello is solid but pitching staff lacks depth. Farm system: #4 (including SS Erick Almonte, P Braden Looper, P Tim Hudson, 1B Carlos Pena, P Mike Wuertz).

Cleveland (70-92 in 1998, 3rd in ALC, 23 gb ) -- Another really good team ran aground by ownership issues. They need some work now. They have superstar outfielders in Luis Gonzalez and Pedro Munoz, but infield is very weak and catching lacks any depth behind Charles Johnson. Rotation also needs work since it has a bunch of #4 - #5 starters but nothing to head the rotation. Will pick 8th in the 1998 draft. Farm system: #24 (including P Rafael Soriano)

New York (N) (61-101 in 1998, last in NLE, 39 gb) -- A dismal team since 1991, but ready for a turnaround, I think. Top of the roation with Jim Abbott and Russ Spring was good last year and they have a great bullpen with Alfonseca, Shuey, and Robb Nen. Fred McGriff is a stud and Aaron Boone, Stan Roye, Armando Rios, Preston Wilson and Richard Hidalgo provide a solid core for the good young prospects to build around. Gets #3 pick in the 1996 draft. Farm system: #7 (including SS Rafael Furcal, P Nick Neugebauer, 1B Travis Hafner, C Brian Schneider)

Philadelphia (84-78 in 1998, 3rd in NLE, 16 gb) -- Phillies over-performed a bit last year but they are a genuine .500+ team, even without an attentive ownership group. Trevor Wilson, Scott Elarton top a decent rotation but the bullpen (Graves, McElroy, Jeremy Hernandez) is good. Offense is headed by young sluggers like 2B Alfonso Soriano, Aaron Guiel, John Olerud and Ronnie Belliard. Their farm system, headed by a boosted Chad Hermansen is very good. Farm system: #5 (OF Chad Hermansen, C Ben Petrick, P Vicente Padilla, C Miguel Olivo).

Our available teams are:

Cleveland (76-86 in 1999, 3rd in ALC, 30 gb ) -- Once a really good team that's been treading water without an active owner. They're currently 52-56 in third place so they need some work. They have one superstar outfielder in Luis Gonzalez, another excellent outfielder in Bobby Higginson and a a very good platoon hitter in Jay Gibbons. Pokey Reese head a mediocre infield, while their catching core is solid. The top of the rotation is solid but unspectacular with Glendon Rusch and Vaughn Eshelman, but like the rest of team, the squad lacks depth. Farm system: #13 (including P Rafael Soriano, CF Angel Pagan, C Carlos Ruis, 3B Kensuke Tanaka, OF Aaron Rowand, P Chris Mears, P Horacio Ramirez)

Los Angeles (A) (71-91 in 1999, 4rd in ALW, 20 gb) -- A team that has run aground due to ownership issues. While they are currently the second worst team in the league (meaning the #2 draft pick in 2001 as of now), they do have so quality players to build around or trade off. The team has a very strong infield based around Frank Thomas, a boosted players Micah Franklin and Ramon Vazquez and a watered-down but still good version of Alex Rodriguez. The outfield is a mess. The pitching staff is a wasteland, but starters Kelvim Escobar, Mike Hampton and Sidney Ponson should be performing better than they have been this season. Farm system: #4 (including league's #1 prospect P Carlos Zambrano, OF Nelson Cruz, OF Corey Hart, 2B Luis Rivas, P Adam Bernero).

Oakland (87-75 in 1999, 3rd in ALW, 4 gb) -- They were excellent from 1997-99, including a 106-win 1998 season, but they lost their owner this year and have struggled at 44-64. Their rotation is excellent, led by Mike Mussina, Odalis Perez, Shane Reynolds and Masao Kida, but their bullpen is shaky. Their outfield is quite bad, except for Reed Johnson, but they have a terrific first baseman in Tony Clark and an highly-touted 21-year old catcher in Carlos Maldonado. Farm system: #17 (including 3B Edwin Encarnacion, OF Ryan Ludwick, P Jerome Williams, C Toby Hall, 3B Willy Aybar)

Philadelphia (82-80 in 1999, 3rd in NLE, 11 gb) -- A consistently .500 team, even without an active ownership group. At 58-50, they are just 3 games out of first in the NL East and are leading the NL wild card. Youngsters Ted Lilly, Matt Morris and Danny Graves top a decent rotation that is getting a big comeback year from Al Leiter. The bullpen (McElroy, Jeremy Hernandez, Urbina, Tavo Alvarez) is very good. The offense is headed by young sluggers like 2B Alfonso Soriano, Aaron Guiel, Johnny Damon, Eric Hinske, and Chad Hermansen, while John Olerud backs them. After promoting all their stud prospects, their farm system is down to #25 (C Miguel Olivo, P Kris Wilson, P Jason Stanford, 2B Ronnie Belliard, 1B Erubiel Durazo, CF Gary Matthews Jr., P Matt Anderson).

San Diego (76-86 in 1999, 3rd in NLW, 24 gb) -- The Padres look like they are worse than ever (at 39-69 in 2000) but they have turned a corner and will be ready to compete very soon. The rotation is down this year with only Bobby M Jones have a good year, but it should be able to bounce quickly as Andy Pettitte, Rick Helling and Fumiya Nishiguchi are all underperforming. The bullpen features Mariano Rivera (also have a bad year) but no one to get the ball to him. The teams strength lies in their very deep and young stable of hitters, including RF Ichiro Suzuki, SS Edgar Renteria, C Victor Martinez, 3B Troy Glaus, 3B-OF Russell Branyan, all of whom are 26-years-old or younger. Platoon hitters SS Jose Valentin and Roberto Petagine still have several good years ahead of them. Plus, the farm system, ranked #15 is very strong (including OF Matt Holliday, P Aaron Harang, C Davis Ross, 3B Aubrey Huff, CF Gregor Blanco, SS Ramon Castro, P Travis Phelps, OF Jayson Werth, OF-2B Kelly Johnson).

I love the RLPA!

The Replacement Level Players Association was founded over ten years ago from some huge baseball fans from the Baseball Primer site (remember them?) and has since evolved through several different OOTP leagues (we started off with OOTP4! Remember the descriptive ranking system and spring training hacks?) and iterations to arrive where we are now - one of the best and most reliable leagues in OOTP history. Competition is fun but real, the owners are passionate but fair, and our commish won the Nobel Prize for Commissionering in 2009. What's not to like?

Two Thumbs Up

This league is fantastic. The people involved have made it enjoyable to be apart of despite my teams being consistently mediocre.

Pretty sure there isn't a nobel prize for that.

With the requests that we've had it seems that only Oakland and Philadelphia are available.

Our available teams are:

Chicago White Sox (74-88 in 2001, 4th in ALC, 17 gb ) -- The White Sox have turned a corner from their back-to-back 100-loss teams of 1998-1999 but they are still a work-in-progress. The good news is that they have several good young starting pitchers (Josh Beckett, Joe Kennedy, Byung-Hyun Kim, Joey Hamilton and a 19-year-old stud first baseman in Adrian Gonzalez. The bad news is that they still need a lot of pieces to fill in some holes. They have the #8 pick in the 2002 draft. Farm system: #19 (SP Hisashi Iwakuma, SP Sam Marsonek, 2B Freddy Sanchez, 4B Chad Tracy)

Los Angeles Angels (80-82 in 2001, 4th in ALW, 9 gb) -- A consistently middling team due mostly to their lack of consistent ownership. They are solid group now though that are only in need of a good owner to lead them to the top of a weakish division. They have several quality players to build around, including and infield Frank Thomas, Alex Rodriguez (less talented than his real life self), Ramon Vazquez and a very young (if less stellar than real life) Victor Martinez and an outfieldt hat features Bobby Abreau and David Dllucci in their primes. Once a mess, the pitching staff has been better this season, headed by starters Kelvim Escobar, Sidney Ponson, and Nate Bland and back by a solid bulllpen of LaTroy Hawkins, Randy Flores and Steve Karsay. Farm system: #4 (including league's #1 prospect C Joe Mauer, SP Carlos Zambrano, OF Nelson Cruz, OF Jayson Werth, SS Jason Bartlett, IF Alberto Castillo, 1B Adam LaRoche)

Philadelphia Phillies (68-94 in 2001, 5th in NLE, 27 gb) -- A formerly-consistent middle-of-the-pack team that slipped badly in 2001, going from a 90-win to a 90-loss team. Rotation of Ted Lilly, Andy Pettitte and Scott Elarton has been up-and-down, but their bullpen (Davvy Graves, TAvo Alvarez, Ugie Urbina, Jeremy Hernandez and Antonio Osuna) is terrific. They have a number of offensive tools too, like C Miguel Olivo, 1B Erubiel Durazo, 2B Alfonso Soriano, 3B Joe Crede, 1B Doug Mientkiewicz, stud outfielders Aaron Guiel and Tyler Houston plus OF Chad Curtis. Farm system #25 (C Miguel Olivo, SS Jhonny Peralto, OF Alejandro de Aza, UT Martin Prado, P Luis Mendoza, P Kris Wilson, P Jason Stanford, P Matt Wise).

We will be switching to OOTP15 after the current season (approximately August 2014)
