Players Dropping in rating?

Hey guys I am new to the game and I am still learning. I have started a gm game owning the Athletics. I signed a free agent named Brad Emaus he was a four star five star potential rating player. I usually play games because when I sim I never win I don't know if you gentlemen could answer that question too. The major difference between playing and simming? But none the less the player I talked about earlier after a week suddenly he drops to one star rating and potential. Is that because he was a free agent and maybe he wasn't signed for a reason? Any help would be much appreciated.

It sounds like you have scouting on and your scout has now gotten a better look at him and has changed his ratings.

The volatility of this can be effected by your scouts ratings and the accuracy you have set scouting to have in the game.
