How is Leverage Index being portrayed?
I read up on what leverage index is but how is it being depicted in the stats? Is this the average LI over the course of a season when a pitcher enters a game or is each PA in all relief appearances also included?
For those who don't know what LI is: Quote:

I believe we report the average leverage per batter faced, not just when they enter the game.

LI = living in denial of the law of independent results
either that or people must not try hard in other situations, and if that's the case i'm sure for multiple millions of dollars you can find people that will do lots of things to play a game for a career. just look at what nfl players are willing to do to themselves during the course of a normal game. so, that's obviously not likely a common factor here. the competition is high enough that the players know they have to concentrate on every play or someone with similar skill will surpass them. effort is a major portion of the pie for all fringe players and probably the bottom 2/3rds of players. mental lapses happen, but you better be a really good player if you make a habit of it. |

Correct! Leverage Index is a measure of Usage, not Performance. It is no better an indicator of performance than Games Started, but it does give you an idea of when the pitcher is being used. It might help you guess which pitcher an opposing manager might use based on the game situation. If you play as GM only, it is also a good way to determine which pitchers your own manager is using in certain situations and allow you to assess what is going on with your team.
