Safe at Third?

I recently encountered a situation and still can't quite wrap my head around it, so I thought maybe I'd toss it out to the forum members. Here's the situation: runner on first with one out. The batter hits a double to right field. The runner from first attempts to score and is safe at home. Now, according to the game account, the trailing runner attempts to advance to third and is safe after beating the throw from the right fielder. The game summary is below:

Name: safe at third.jpg

My question: who threw where? Did the right fielder throw home or did he throw to third base? If he threw home, then he couldn't have also thrown to third base. Presumably, if the throw was to home, then any attempt to get the runner at third was made by the catcher or maybe the pitcher. On the other hand, if the right fielder threw to third base, then that means the batter should be credited with a triple, not a double.

Ultimately, this doesn't make any difference, as there would be no assists or putouts recorded in either case. It's not that the situation would never occur - it happens all the time - it's just that the description in the game summary doesn't make sense. Or does it?

I can definitely see the confusion, but I've seen it so often that I've made sense out of it. At least I think I did

The description is noting the runner safe at home, even though no throw was made to home, only to 3rd. This is confusing, and I agree with you, it should be a triple.

Or the play should have been 9-2 safe at home, 2-5 safe at 3rd, stretching a dbl into a tpl if they want to rule it a dbl.

I have complained about this kind of play for years. That's all I'll say about it. This is also why I've called for a way to edit this play and correctly score it as in me being the official scorer. There are other plays I would love to correct the scoring, too. But, such as it is.
