What's the story with this manager?

Taking a screenshot of from my sim, this manager made the playoffs three years in a row with the braves and was 2x manager of the year. After not being renewed, he took a job as manager of the rookie A Elizabethon Twins.
His player development and relationship ratings are good too.

This isn't realistic, no? When would a manager at the beginning of career opt to coach a rookie A minor league team after having such a good start to his career? Wouldn't the more realistic scenario be him waiting a year or two to coach again in the majors, or at least as a major league bench coach?

Manager/coach movement has never been super realistic in OOTP. I use it and it's okay, but the whole thing could use a good revamp. Reputable big league managers take minor league jobs but should not. More importantly, you REALLY need to be able to pluck away employed bench/hitting/pitching coaches from other teams for promotions. That is just a very basic tenet of real life MLB that is not reflected in OOTP. The game is so sophisticated now that it's hard to pinpoint areas for significant improvement, but this is one, and I will be ecstatic if I ever see "much more realistic coaching staff hiring" on a new version's feature list.

Well, maybe he met a hot chick from Elizabethton and took a job there to be near her. A friend of mine married a woman from that town. Very nice looking.

It's merely odd when established MLB managers take lower minor league jobs in OOTP (and thinking up rationales for their actions can be amusing). You've identified the real gripe with the current system. It ought to be possible to entice employed personnel into greener pastures, particularly when their contracts are about to expire. At present, a team can extend a top-flight manager, coach, scout or trainer without having to outbid the competition.

Should happen even regardless of their contract status. In the real world, if I want your hitting coach to be my manager, I am going to get him (unless I get outbid by another MLB team who also wants him as a manager).

You bring up another good point which is that, often, qualified minor league personnel and assistants on the major league staff renew their contracts before they ever hit the open market, and you can have a guy who should be a major league manager sitting around for YEARS before he's even eligible to get that post, if it ever happens at all.
