Randy Myers is not old, unless I'm very old.

Oh. Wait.

Bruce Hurst...a name Mets fans dreaded even more than Roger Clemens in 1986.

Magic number is #47. The flash in the pan to end all flashes in the pan, Shane Spencer. He was Roy Hobbs his first month in the Bigs back in '98, and Ken Hubbs for the rest of his career.

He was with the Blue Jays briefly and then was dealt to the Indians for Alfredo Griffin who won co-ROY honours with John Castino of the Twins in 1979. Walked way too many hitters in his time here (6.7 BB/9), but didn't give up any dingers at Excruciating Stadium in 47.1 IP and finished 7-3 with 9 SV and a 1.71 ERA in his brief career here. Victor Cruz #47.

I will forever, forever, forever hate Peter Bavasi for nixing a Pat Gillick fleecing that would've sent Guidry to my Blue Jays for Bill Singer. Can you imagine Stieb, Guidry plus in that rotation? And the price would only have been broken down Bill Singer? So glad Bavasi was forced out early on in Blue Jay history so he couldn't continue his meddling ways.

Rick "Big Daddy" Reuschel, who briefly wore #47 in his second stint with the Cubbies in 1983 and 1984 before switching back to his more familiar #48.

Man, that's cool.

I once dated Lori DiPoto (Jerry's sister). He was in minors for Cleveland at the time, if I remember.

Much like Roberto Alomar's bat when he hit the game tying 2-run dinger off Dennis Eckersley in the ninth inning of Game 4 of the 1992 ALCS. Where did it go? See photo below as well. No bat! Quite possibly the biggest hit in Blue Jays history. I know Joe Carter had a big one off Mitch Williams and Ed Sprague hammered a huge one off Jeff Reardon, but the Blue Jays had had trouble getting past the ALCS and this HR propelled them to a 3-1 series lead and they finished it off in Toronto in Game 6. Yuuuge!!!

It's February already? Where's the time going? Anyway, the upside is that we're down to 46 days until OOTP18's release. Let's celebrate by NOT taking a too big of a lead off first, because the guy below will almost assuredly pick us off.

Andy Pettitte

Don't be too hard on Bavasi. King George, after all, had to practically be begged out of trading Guidry on at least two occasions before he achieved stardom.

After one particular disastrous spring training outing in 1977, Steinbrenner insulted Guidry to his face by telling him he didn't have what it took to be a big leaguer (or any guts, I believe, were his exact words). Guidry promptly packed his bags and starting driving back home to Louisiana. He was almost halfway there before his wife was finally able to persuade him not to quit and to drive back. Less than two months later, he replaced an injured Catfish Hunter in the rotation and the rest, as the say, is history.

Ah George. Never a dull moment with that irascible powder keg around was there? He did get results, but one wonders if the results could've been there without all the drama. Where would the fun be in that though amirite?
