$60 Million Dollar Challenge

Hey guys her is a little challenge for you. After playing this game for almost a month I have gotten to the point where its fairly easy to turn any team into a winner. So I decided to make a little challenge for myself. Its pretty simple, you can spend no more than $60 Million each season (Starting with the 2011 default league files).

Good Teams to Start With:
49 - Cleveland
51 - Pittsburgh
56 - Kansas City
62 - Tampa Bay
61 - San Diego
69 - Arizona
71 - Oakland
76 - Toronto
76 - Florida
78 - Houston

You can pick any team, but the teams listed are easier to get down to the 60 million dollar limit. By the end of the season with the 40 man roster your budget will climb a little because you will be adding 15 minor leaguers to your roster. Because of this your payroll on the final day of the season can be no more than 65.

A few tips:
*Try to run on a lower budget so you have some room to pick up angry stars in the last year of there contract who will be Type-A free agents.

*Try an lock down your top prospects with deals once they have over two years of Service Time. I have had a few guys who I have been able to get to sign a three year deal for 5 to 6 million per who would have cost me 12 a year if hadn't jumped on them quick enough.

*Good pitching is cheap in the draft, during the first round I will find the best position players I can get, after that I load up on pitching. Also do not be afraid to pick up a pitcher who has low potential in one pitching category. They will never make my big league team but they are great trade bait.

*Be sure to check the league news each week and see if there are any angry players demanding a trade. If they are cheap or in the last year of their contract pick them up, but make their team pay. Be sure to make them add a good prospect in the trade. This is where those drafted pitchers come into play. You can have a developed pitch who is 70/70 but lacks control and will never make your pro team but is great trade bait to push a deal on through.

I started with Oakland in my attempt.

Code:
Year	Bud	OPR	FPR	Rec	Exp
====================================================
2011	90	59.5	55.4	70-92	Over .500
2012	90	41.0	42.6	72-90	.500
2013	90	40.9	37.8	86-76	.500
2014	95	41.5	49.0	87-75	Playoffs
The first couple of seasons we were not very good but have gotten better each season. So far the star of our team has been Bryce Harper. I traded SP G.Gonzalez (72/73) and RF M.Taylor (21/48) to the Nationals for RF Harper (21/80), C D.Norris (21/77) and CF E.Perez (21/55). Harper spent 2011 in the minors before blasting into the majors hitting 32 HR's in 2012 and 41 in both 2013 and 2014.

2014 got off to a terrible start. We were 1-13 and 7 games under .500 at the All-Star break. During the second half of the season we finally started playing to our potential and finished 1 game back in the AL West barely missing the playoffs. Hopefully we can finally get over the hump in 2015.

2015 is looking really good. We have a ton of talent but a lot of it has to go after the end of the year because I will not be able to afford them any longer. Hopefully I can pickup some good prospects for the out going guys.

Oh yeah one other tip, let your guys develop in the minors. I have a couple utility guys who can play a ton of positions. They are not the best but they allow me the opportunity keep from burning up my prospects first three years of service time (prearbitration).

This may sound dumb, but I dont know the rules of baseball. Do you sign these guys after they get major league contracts? Do you sign them before they go to arbitration, or during auto arbitration?

In September you call go to a 40 man roster and the guys you call up will automatically get 400k (auto) contracts. After you send them back down the contracts will reset after spring training before the start of the next season.

Once a player gets 3 years service time he is eligible for arbitrartion until that point they get they 1 yr auto contract for 400k.

That is a nice turn around within just a few years. Hopefully this is the year for the playoffs....

Well just a little update. We won the World Series (against the Cardinals, 129.4M payroll, 1.32M/win) and had the best record in the majors at 107-55. With some very careful call-ups from the minors I was able to stem the tide of players having to leave. In 2016 we again went 107-55 but lost in game 7 of the World Series to the Atlanta Braves (151.7 payroll, 1.48M/win). This offseason is not looking good. I am going to lose 6 guys who have been instrumental in our success, I will try and get some good prospects for them and hopefully the rebuilding process will not take to long.

Year	Bud	OPR	FPR	Rec	$/W	Exp

2011	90	59.5	55.4	70-92	0.79M	Over .500
2012	90	41.0	42.6	72-90	0.59M	.500
2013	90	40.9	37.8	86-76	0.44M	.500
2014	95	41.5	49.0	87-75	0.56M	Playoffs
2015	100	39.6	47.4	107-55	0.44M	Over .500
2016	110	44.0	65.3	107-55	0.61M	Playoffs
