Pittsburgh Pirates - 1970
The 1970 Pirates went 89-73 first place in the NL East. In the playoffs they faced their many times nemesis, the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds swept all three games to advance to the World Series. When the Reds and Pirates meet today in the wild card game, it will be the sixth postseason showdown between the two great river cities. The Reds have won 4 of the 5 series to date.

Yesterday's Debut
Quote:
Kevin Kiermaier made his major league debut last night as a 9th-inning defensive replacement (no fielding chances) in the Rays' 163rd game of the season. Failing a special circumstance in the postseason, similar to Mark Kiger's, Kiermaier will be the last debut this year, leaving 2013 still as sixth-busiest debut year in major league history.

Pittsburgh Pirates - 1971
1971 was the magic year for the Pirates. They won the NL East with a record of 97-65, captured the NL flag by defeating the Giants 3 games to 1. Finally, they captured the World Championship by defeating the Orioles 4-3. This was the shinning moment for Roberto Clemente who was the World Series MVP.

Pittsburgh Pirates - 1972
The 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates were the defending World Champions and once again won the NL East with a record of 96-59. They lost in the playoffs to the Cincinnati Reds 3-2.
I still remember watching that 5th game as the Reds rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth. George Foster scored the winning run on a wild pitch by Bob Moose. 1972 was also the final year for Roberto Clemente who would die in that tragic plane crash while bringing assistance to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. He did, however, collect his 3000th hit before he left us too soon. 1972 Pirates Roberto Clemente - Willie Stargell - Dock Ellis - Bob Moose - Bill Mazeroski |

Where have the new images gone?
The hysteria seems to have died down. I have not seen the volume of new images coming through the forum in the past week. I hope we have not exhausted all of our resources and bottomed out. Here are a couple unique ones to hopefully get us going again. A 21 yr. old Pete Mackanin in his short stint with the Rangers and Jim Wohlford before the polyester invasion of the 70s.

Dave Cash
Thanks for the Cash! Here are a couple of more of him that I do not have a date for but they have to be from 1970, 1971 or 1972. He was traded to the Phillies before the 1974 season started. In 1973, the Pirates wore commemorative patches on their sleeves to honor Roberto Clemente.
