We Need More Innings

I know this is probably a common theme, but I just can't help myself. There were probably longer games in your saves, but this one is huge for me.

Found this in my Inbox and got scared.

You cannot even see 28th inning on the box score.

Eight hours of pure agony, as there were no runs since the 6th.

Never seen a game go that long before. I wonder of the 53420 who turned up, stayed the full 8 hours?

There should be an option to play by Japanese rules.

Everyone commits ritual suicide from shame after failing to score runs?

The good news is that 18180 never bothered to go in the first place. But I get your point.

the game should have been suspended due to curfew and continued the following day. Was a 7pm start but for OOTP that's immaterial. Still I loved it and came close to the real life record of 33 innings in the 1980s at Pawtucket AAA team Forget who they played over the course of the 2 days.

Rochester.

For a few years after that at McCoy Stadium, large soft drinks came in a plastic cup with the line score printed on them . . 360 degrees around.

I had two (2) of those cups as a kid. Still may have them at the family house somewhere. Loved going to McCoy to watch a game back then. Great memories chanting "Chico Chico" for Chico Walker!

The Longest Game in History | Pawtucket Red Sox McCoy Stadium

Amazingly low scoring game all the way around. Also bottom of page will show what records were broken or set for that game. Downright AMAZING.....

Should note there were a couple future HOFers in this game.

I had a couple as well . . long time ago, think they may be goners.

I remember the Luis Aponte anecdote from the story (his wife thought he was out partying all night and locked him out).

Also, it seems somewhere, some year, I read that the 19 people who stayed for all 32 innings the first night got lifetime passes to McCoy.

Nope. But you did get me laughing. Japan's rules say that after... uh, let me just quote the wikipedia article.

I have been to that stadium. They have the whole line score along the walls. A number of records were set it in the game. It also was played over 3 days, not 2.

Notables in the game: Boggs, Ripkin Jr, Ojeda, and a number of others.

Very interesting.

Very cool. I've never seen a game like that, but would love the game to keep track of it somewhere.

Yes very cool, I think the longest game I've seen in 4 years of playing this game routinely is 22-23 innings.

Not sure what my franchise's longest game is; OOTP doesn't make a note of especially long games so if a player doesn't have a notable performance (or if it doesn't involve my ballclub) there's no way to know.

The longest game I've seen personally was 21 innings, as you can see attached. However... check out the upper right of the screen shot.

Wow, glad I didn't have that game. It would be a hell of a strain on the pitching staff. It reminds me of W.P. Kinsella's the Iowa Baseball Confederacy, where an exhibition game between the Iowa Baseball Confederacy All Stars and the Chicago White Sox (of the Three Finger Brown era) goes on for hundreds of innings. Although the major league record is 25, I think, so 22 is still well within the realm of possibility.

It wouldn't be a major league record for innings, though.

Not only 21 innings, but the prior game went 16. (It came out too small to see in my screenshot.) That's FOUR baseball games in two nights. My bullpen guys were cooked like Christmas ham.

We rallied to tie in the 13th AND 19th innings. It was surreal.

Wow, that's a hell of a bump.

Which is exactly why I keep trying to make a box scores thread, so every single 20 inning game doesn't get its own thread.
