CP vs RP

Hi guys, I am somehow new to this game, played mostly at the end of the '20 cycle and now switched my game to '21.

I've just signed an International amateur from the free agents. To me he looks like a Relieve pitcher, he has good stamina, many pitches etc.

However, my scout consider him as a closer and i am not sure why.

Can you guys help me?

I know I can force him into RP, but if I do, by default they still put him as a setup man. Why would I want a 65 stamina guy to be a Setup or Closer?

Thanks in advance

I'd probably be training him as a starter, not a closer or RP.

I agree but why do they see him as a closer... my point is that he is much closer to a reliever than a closer

Usually relievers who are the best among relievers are scouted as closer's since most managers and GMs tend to have their best reliever close out games.

If he was one of my players, I would develop him as a closer but have him close out the last two or even three innings of close games.
He could possibly be a 150 IP closer and you could have cheaper set up pitchers or even save some money across your bullpen and spend it elsewhere on your club.
He could essentially fill 2-3 roles in your bullpen for the price of one really good bullpen arm saving you resources to use elsewhere is what I am trying to say.

And his value as a starter depends on the quality of that third pitch. If it remains weak then he would be wasted as a starter since he will get pummeled in the middle innings.

Convert him to a starter. Just to see how his ratings change.

Looks like a fine starter to me

He would be a 3 star starter compared to 5 star reliever

A 3 star starter is plenty useful
