the red sleeves are a rather sloppy exercise in flood-fill color replacement, as are the belt and stirrup hose.

Here's a color shot of Newcombe
I am puzzled that the color image of Newcombe is attributed to me. For the record here is the image of Newcombe I did post in a Cleveland uniform.

I am willing to stand corrected if the color post is revealed, but I also have no record of the posted color image in my files.

Downloaded from a strat fan forum member years ago. I can't remember who it was. Thanks for the correction. If this is the worst news I have all year I'll be very happy. It works for me in the game.

Don Newcombe 1949 (in 1960)

Here's the full Newcombe/Cleveland btw.

To my knowledge, not a single color image from that team, and this is the only one of any kind.

ToppsVault ID corrections

the two items listed today as Matt Stark are really John Mizerock... also, while I don't know the correct ID, the two items listed as Ron Johnson with the '85 Tigers do not at all resemble the other Ron Johnson images in my files.

That is Ron Johnson....his card and Dan Wieser's cards were switched in the Omaha minor league set...perhaps the photo you have is from that set

Ron Johnson 1982 and Rondin Johnson 1986

Ah, the Ron Johnsons ride again.

This has been confusing ever since first baseman Ron Johnson https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...ohnsro03.shtml was called up by the Royals in September, 1982. Four years later Kansas City promoted another September call-up, a second baseman named Rondin Johnson https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...ohnsro05.shtml

Ron went on to a 22-game career in Kansas City and Montreal and was indeed in camp with the '85 Tigers - and in fact the only Johnson in the Tiger system that year. He's clearly wearing a uniform reading "Johnson" in one of the just-posted Topps negatives. His son Chris spent parts of eight years in the majors, as recently as 2016 with the Marlins, often flashing power and promises of power. Ron Johnson went on to a long career as a minor league manager and big league coach.

Rondin had an 11-game career, all with the '86 Royals.

To ratchet this up a little more, neither of them got their own major league baseball card. One more problem: there's a 1988 minor league card of Rondin - in an Omaha Royals uniform - identified as "Ron Johnson." To make it worse still, the photo of "Ron Johnson" on his Baseball-Reference page is from a minor league card that shows the wrong player.

I think the 1985 Tiger negatives indeed show Ron Johnson 1982. Look at the two images on the left: particularly at the Tiger portrait, and the facial similarities and particularly the expression on the 1990 card showing him after he began his minor league coaching career.

Sorry for the profusion of cards here but I'll be damned if I add to the confusion by posting unlabeled images.

Larry Sherry 1959

I know why a shot in an Angels' uni of the unexpected relief star of the '59 World Series should be a scarce commodity: quick research indicates the Cherubs purchased him from Seattle of the Pacific Coast League on July 1, 1968, pitched him on the 2nd, 4th, and 7th, then sold him to the old Hawaii Islanders on July 12th.

What I don't get is, since he spent the first three days of his final stint in the majors at Tiger Stadium in the presence of the meticulous photographer J.D. McCarthy, why if McCarthy posed him - in color - this image has only turned up recently. Sherry died in 2006, so autographed photos would obviously date to before then.

In any event, one was sold in a Pristine Auctions sale last month and thus just popped up in a Google Image search. I followed a few links and voila: a pretty clean copy of a very scarce whale...

I guess what's thrown me isn't the Ron/Rondin thing, but Ron's weight fluctuations. In the new TV listings he looks lean and mature, but in other photos he's either fleshy, pudgy or blimpy.

Bert Graham 1910

Graham played in 8 games for the 1910 St. Louis Browns and hit a paltry .115.

Sled Allen 1910

Also exclusive to the 1910 St. Louis Browns, Allen didn't fare much better than Graham. He finished his 14 game career hitting .130.

Demmitt made a brief appearance on the 1910 St. Louis Browns, getting into 10 games. He became their regular Right Fielder beginning in 1918.

Can't argue that his face seems larger or smaller - possibly dependent on whether or not he's smiling - in the photos from his playing days. But that shot of Ron Johnson with the Red Sox is either from 2010 or 2011

Red Fisher 1910

Utility outfielder Red Fisher was part of the reason the 1910 Browns went 47-107. He contributed a .125 average to their campaign.

I didn't look for them. If I go back, I will take a look for Darcy and Downing; I've been in the Nolan file and there's nothing unusual for him except San Diego. There is a Downing/Reds photo from Spring Training 1978 sold on eBay in 2015 or so by, I believe, Kyle Photos.

Art Griggs 1909

Griggs played 6 different positions during the course of the 1910 season and his .236 average was sadly one of the top marks on this lousy Browns team.

Ed Kinsella 1905

Kinsella made 3 appearances in 1905 for the Pirates and then was absent from the big leagues for 5 years. He had some success in that time with Portland of the Pacific Coast league, but had the misfortune to be part of one of the worst teams ever: the 1910 Browns.
