Career ending injury question

Hey guys I'm new to the board. I installed MLB Manager 2015 on my iPhone a couple months ago and been addicted to this game ever since. I've had some injuries to my team but recently had a career ending injury to one of my players.

He was out for a few months with a torn meniscus then after I was playing a game, he had a setback and was forced to retire.

He has two years left in his contract so I was wondering when I get to the offseason, will I be able to recoup some of his contract? And for those people whose players have had a career ending injury, do you release him from your roster or keep him?

Put him on the DL and he should retire at the end of the season. At least, that's how it works in OOTP. And then you should get that contract money back in your budget.

What I did was I released him and I got the contract money back.
