When do you shut it down and let AI sim out the string?

I usually play individual team games into September. My last one went until then last day of regular season with Pirates loosing the division to the Mets by one game.

My question: does any one have a general rule when you let AI take over, and play out the string? Right now I'm 16 GB with 45+ games to play and pondering using AI to play out using minor leaguers and get to the off season... Obliviously 20 games out with 20 to play is time to stick a fork in it! What seems to be a good guideline for you?

I play out games but in a lost season I will let the AI do more the last month. Instead of just simming a week at a time. I will start the game and set the line up and sim to the 6th or 7th inning, see where I am and decide if i want to take over, just make some changes to get minor leaguers in or just sim to end.
