How do extensions work
So I was curious how do contract extensions work in this version of OOTP, the reason I ask is because I try to negotiate a contract in which they proceed to tell me that the offer looks pretty good that they are pretty certain they wont change their mind and will sign the contract extension in a few days, Please submit the offer to officially confirm it. So I proceed to submit the offer and it tells me You have submitted an offer, I am still thinking about it at the moment. I will let you know my decision soon. Couple days go by and I'm expecting a private message telling me his response. When four days passed by I went to the players page again and I guess you can call it a counter offer however its the same EXACT offer I had been offering him and I have to resubmit the same exact offer. Is there something I'm missing here??

Are you in-season or off season? It can take a week to get a response either way but I've never had a positive response extension turned down in-season ie with no competition.

In season and its not that they are turning it down it just seemed odd they are repeating exactly what they said before same offer that i offered and all.
Its one of my players just trying to extend his contract Last edited by Cubfan2001; 12-08-2014 at 12:42 PM. |

Can you post screenshots?
Repeat the offer and take a screenshot of the response. Advance 1 day and go to the Free agent screen then pending offers. I know he's not a FA but quite sure the pending offer will show. Take a screenshot of the offer and then advance 1 day at a time until the message on the offer changes or the player signs.

Before resubmitting the offer check the 'pending offers' under free agents and see if your offer is still there.
I have submitted offers and they show up under "pending offers" and then I go to 'offer contract' and the same demands are there and I can make an offer. But, the previous offer is still pending so there is no need to make a new offer. I have seen, rarely, where a player says he likes the offer then turns it down but the vast majority of time it just takes some time before he accepts the offer. I've had positive response extensions turned down in-season. Just yesterday Chris Sale turned down an extension he positively responded to, wanting more money. I had to add a couple million to it to get him to sign. Between the initial offer and his response, he threw two shutouts. I feel like after those two great performances he valued himself more than my initial offer. This was only the latest example, but I've had it happen many times. It makes sense because player demands are fluid and change over the course of a season.

I'd ask for more if I threw 2 shutouts.
Edit: Maybe I'm offering too much.

Nothing has changed because you haven't given him a chance to respond yet. If you haven't received a reply from him, then he hasn't decided yet. Repeatedly going back before he responds is pointless, nothing's going to change. Wait until you get a response. Sometimes players don't respond for a week or so. Patience grasshopper |
