2072 Season (NCAA Top 25)

April 2072:
The first NCAA Top 25 Poll is out and so far Santa Clara looks to be the class of the field. Of note: The PCU Whooping Cranes, in their inaugural season, come in with some lofty expectations out of the gate at #3 and those ‘ol stalwarts at San Dimas Community College are sitting pretty so far at #4.

Plot Twist: Dominic Simas looks like a partier... Let's hope that any off the field shenanigans he occupies his time with won't be detrimental to the team.

1) Santa Clara Broncos
2) Vanderbilt Commodores
3) PCU Whooping Cranes
4) San Dimas CC Wyld Stallyns

5) San Jose State Spartans
6) LSU Tigers
7) Penn State Nittany Lions

May 2072:
NCAA:
The LSU Tigers brought home their 1st NCAA Championship in a thrilling 11-to-4 win over Northern Arizona University in the final. LSU was ranked at #7 as they entered the tournament and will be losing top prospects CF Wasp Hauck & SP Carson Vespa to the Amateur Draft in June making their road to a 2nd consecutive title a tough slog.

2072 NCAA Final Four: LSU defeats Fresno State (3-0); NAU defeats North Carolina State (4-2).
2072 NCAA Championship: LSU defeats NAU (11-4)
Season MVP: SP Carson Vespa, LSU (21 years old, 70 Potential). In his exceptional season Vespa chalked up a 0.86 ERA in 73.2 innings with 109 strikeouts and 19 walks. Enemy teams hit .183 against him in his 10 starts.

2072 Season (MLB May)

May 2072 (MLB):
After a poor 10-14 start to the 2072 season, the Houston Dynamo managed to right the ship in May. After falling to Portland in a 4-game sweep, the Dynamo roared back to finish the month with an 18-10 record – including a hard-earned sweep of their own on the road at Golden State. Houston 1B Danny Green led the charge all month for the Dynamo and nabbed his 1st career Batter of the Month award, going .324 with 12 home runs, 23 RBI’s and 26 runs scored. He’s now .302 on the season with a league-leading 17 home runs. At his current pace, he will eclipse his career-high home run total of 40.

Sidenote: SP Josiah Weber is playing like a savage thus far in 2072. He is to OOTP what Bo Jackson was to Techmo Bowl.

May Power Rankings:
Teams:
1) Jacksonville Jaguars
2) Pittsburgh Steelers
3) Seattle Sounders
4) Brooklyn Citizens
5) Houston Dynamo
6) St. Louis Rams
7) Orlando City
8) San Francisco 49ers
9) Toronto Reds BC

Notable:
UCSC Standout, SP Barney Luna, was picked 20th in the 2072 Amateur Draft. This is only notable because I find the name funny – you just don’t see a lot of Barney’s out in the wild. He also has 90’s style sideburns.

2072 Season (MLB June)

June 2072 (MLB):
The Chicago Fire rode their hot streak in June all the way to #3 on the power rankings, rising up from #11 after finishing the month at 19-8. Their success has been a total team effort as they had no real standout individual performances from the club. Meanwhile, Jacksonville Ace, Josiah Weber, continues his brilliant season through his first 16 starts. He’s sitting on a perfect 13-0 record with a leagu-leading ERA of 1.03 and a WAR of 7.2 – it’s almost unfair.

June Power Rankings:
Teams:
1) Jacksonville Jaguars
2) Pittsburgh Steelers
3) Chicago Fire
4) Seattle Sounders
5) San Francisco 49ers
6) Brooklyn Citizens
7) Houston Dynamo
8) Los Angeles Lakers
9) Carolina Panthers
10) Dallas Cowboys
11) St. Louis Rams
12) Philadelphia 76ers
13) Toronto Reds BC
14) Portland Timbers
15) Vancouver Whitecaps
16) Montreal Impact
17) Orlando City
18) San Diego Chargers
19) Los Angeles Galaxy
20) New York Jets
21) Phoenix Suns

2072 Season (MLB July)

July 2072 (MLB):
The Houston Dynamo’s great play continued in July as they overtook the Seattle Sounders to sit atop the AL West. They now have a 4-game lead over the Sounders after going 17-9 in July. In other news, July marked the first month of the ’72 season that a pitcher not named Josiah Weber walked away with the Hurler of the Month Award. SP Abe Meinecke of the Green Bay Packers secured the honor after going 4-1 with a 0.82 ERA for the week. Conversely, Weber went 2-2 for the week in 5 starts and gave up 12 earned. His ERA has ballooned to 1.83… I guess that ‘balloon’ is probably not the right term to use there, but it feels good to say it nonetheless.

July Power Rankings (Top 15):
1) Jacksonville Jaguars
2) Pittsburgh Steelers
3) Houston Dynamo
4) Brooklyn Citizens
5) Toronto Reds BC
6) San Francisco 49ers
7) Seattle Sounders
8) Green Bay Packers
9) Montreal Impact
10) Philadelphia 76ers
11) Chicago Fire
12) Vancouver Whitecaps
13) Los Angeles Lakers
14) Dallas Cowboys
15) Portland Timbers

2072 Season (MLB August)

August 2072 (MLB):
Montreal’s SP Dejuan Burns went 4-2 over 7 starts in August with a 1.13 ERA and led the Impact to a 19-10 record for the month. As a result of his masterful work, and with some help from their league-leading pitching staff (#1 in runs against and #1 in starters ERA at 3.10), the Montreal club climbed 5 spots from 9th in the power ranking to 4th. They now find themselves a scant 1 ½ games behind the NL East leading Pittsburgh Steelers. In other news, the Jacksonville Jaguars lost their grip on the #1 spot to the Houston Dynamo, though SP Josiah Weber continues to dominate with a 1.87 ERA and 20 wins already this season.

August Power Rankings (Top 15):
1) Houston Dynamo
2) Jacksonville Jaguars
3) Pittsburgh Steelers
4) Montreal Impact
5) San Francisco 49ers
6) Brooklyn Citizens
7) Philadelphia 76ers

2072 Season (Bush League News)

August 2072 (Bush League News)
34-year-old SS, and youngest of the Jeter Bros, has spent the 2072 season slumming in the Bush League with the Columbia Blowfish. With 112 games played so far in the 2072 Bush League season, Darryl Jeter has only appeared in 54 games, including starting in the last 35 games for the Blowfish. On the year, D. Jeets is batting .305/.370/.431 with 4 HR, 19 RBI, and a 0.5 WAR. Notably, Darryl hit a walk-off 2-run dinger against the Naperville Nibblers on August 26th. For the season, the Columbia Blowfish are 69-45 and find themselves in 1st Place of the Justice Division.

Clubhouse insiders believe that this will be the last season of professional baseball for young Darryl Jeter.

2072 Season (MLB September)

September 2072 (MLB):
September ended with 3 teams in the American League deadlocked for the final two Wildcard spots. Green Bay, Chicago, and Dallas have two days left in the regular season to sort things out. Green Bay has nosedived of late, going 3-7 in their last 10 while Chicago has gone 5-5 over the same stretch. Dallas has been a bit better at 6-4, but it really is anyone’s ballgame, as they say.

Note: At 24 wins, Josiah Weber is 2 wins short of the season win record. The record was set in 2040 by SP Ellerry Wilson while he was with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Ellerry had a so-so career, but, at 34 years old, seemingly out of nowhere he went 26-2, with a 2.04 ERA and 8.1 WAR. He earned the AL Victor Pacheco award for his efforts in 2040 and made the All-Star team 3 times.

September Power Rankings (Top 15):
Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Jacksonville Jaguars
2) Houston Dynamo
3) Pittsburgh Steelers
4) Toronto Reds BC
5) Seattle Sounders
6) San Francisco 49ers
7) Montreal Impact
8) Philadelphia 76ers
9) Los Angeles Lakers

15) Green Bay Packers

2072 Season (MLB Play-In Game)

With Dallas winning their last two games of the season to lock up their Wildcard spot, both Chicago and Green Bay lost their last two games of the season, setting up the play-in game that no one outside of either location wanted...

Packers Walk it Off to Secure Final Wildcard
Starting pitcher Abe Meinecke pitched well enough to help the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Fire by the score of 5-4. Bruce Bouknight, credited with the win, is now 5-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. The 4th-place Fire have lost 4 consecutive games.

Josh Brownell was the walk-off hero ("he heard one guitar, just blew him away...") for Green Bay. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Packers second baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Brownell told the Green Bay Daily. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."

2072 Season (Shortlist News)

RF Jules Winfield, in his 8th year as a professional baseball player, finally managed to stay in the majors for an entire season with the Los Angeles Galaxy. He started 144 games and posted a 0.2 WAR for the 69-93 club. His early potential has never really been realized... could this be his second life?

He won a Player of the Week Award in April.

2072 Season (MLB Playoffs)

October/November 2072:
MLB: The year of Josiah ended with a thud as arm troubles started to plague him in September and culminated in forearm tendonitis that took him out of the Playoffs midway through the 4th inning of his first playoff start against the Seattle Sounders. What a weak way to end what would have gone down as the best season by any player in Strangeverse history. The Jags still managed to make it to the World Series without their ace, a testament to the makeup of their club, where they were bested by the Vancouver Whitecaps in 6 games.

Note: Vancouver finished the season at 82-80... Yikes.

2071 Playoffs:
World Series: Vancouver Whitecaps defeat Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2)
ALCS: Jacksonville Jaguars defeat Toronto Reds BC (4-0)
NLCS: Vancouver Whitecaps defeat San Francisco 49ers (4-3)
WS MVP: RF Hayden Kimmet (VAN) - .381/.458/.857, 2 HR, 5 RBI (Drafted in the 2nd round – pick 46 – in 2066 out of Polk Community College (love and marriage, love and marriage...))

2073 Season (NCAA Championship)

May 2073:
NCAA: The LSU Tigers brought home their 2nd (and 2nd consecutive) NCAA Championship in sound win over the Stanford Cardinals in the final. After besting the consensus #1 team in the tournament, Blue Mountain State, in the final four, the Championship was merely a formality. The defending champion LSU was ranked at #7 (just like last year) as they entered the tournament.

2073 NCAA Final Four: LSU defeats Blue Mountain State (7-2); Stanford defeats Vanderbilt (4-2).
2073 NCAA Championship: LSU defeats Stanford (5-2)
Season MVP: SP Cam Murphy, BMS (21 years old, 75 Potential). Murphy put up an impressive 0.86 ERA in his award-winning season. He started 11 times, worked 73 innings, yielded 37 hits, walked 19, fanned 106 and held opposing hitters to a .145 average.

2073 Season (MLB May)

May 2073 (MLB):
The 33-22 Montreal Impact look like the class of the league through two months of regular season play. Leading the National League in Starters ERA and Runs Against, the impact are as defensively sound as they are offensively balanced. 4 of their 5 starting pitchers boast an ERA below 3.00…

Note: It’s nice to see that the overpowered SP Josiah Weber isn’t leading the league in everything in 2073… at least not yet. At 34 years old, the Jacksonville Ace still has an overall rating of 79 and is on pace to win 20 games for the 5th time in his career.

May Power Rankings:

1) Montreal Impact (121.9, +)
2) Seattle Sounders (118.7, -)

2073 Season (MLB June)

June 2073 (MLB):
The Seattle Sounders went 21-6 in June to take the top spot in the monthly Power Ranking. The team scored in double digits in 5 games including 3 games where they scored 18+ runs. Tow of those 18+ performances came at the expense of division rivals, the Houston Dynamo. The Sounders have won 5 World Series Titles since 1992, with their most recent banner earned in the 2070 season when they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in 7 Games, with the final win coming in Pittsburgh’s ballpark.

Notable: 2B Heathcote Kinton of the Los Angeles Galaxy won the rookie of the month award in the American League. He sent 6 balls over the fence in June. Called up in September of 2072 after only 72 games in Long Beach (AAA), Heathcote is on the fast track to super stardom. The University of Alaska Fairbanks alum has an outside chance of being a perennial all-star.

Also notable: What’s Portland’s Eloy Delando so angry about? He’s on pace to hit 39 jacks… that alone should put a smile on his face. Did 1B Larry Evans sleep with his wife or something?

Also, also notable: The Pitching Leaderboard is Josiah free for the first time ever. Well, not EVER, but it feels that way.

June Power Rankings:
Teams:

1) Seattle Sounders
2) Oklahoma City Thunder
3) Montreal Impact
4) San Diego Chargers
5) Jacksonville Jaguars
6) Dallas Cowboys
7) Green Bay Packers
8) St. Louis Rams
9) Toronto Reds BC
10) Pittsburgh Steelers
11) Vancouver Whitecaps
12) Philadelphia 76ers
13) Los Angeles Galaxy
14) Brooklyn Citizens
15) San Francisco 49ers
16) Los Angeles Lakers
17) New York Jets
18) Chicago Fire
19) Portland Timbers
20) Golden State Warriors
21) Orlando City
22) Houston Dynamo
23) Phoenix Suns
24) Carolina Panthers
