The Knowledge Thread
Hello all:-) Since I discovered OOTP last year I have learned so much about this simulation and about the game of Baseball in general from the very knowledgeable members of this community. I think it would be a good idea to try to get all of this knowledge about OOPT and Baseball into one thread.
This is why I am creating this thread. My goal is to have members share links, tips, or anything else that they think would be helpful to know about OOTP and Baseball in general. I will organize the information and edit this post to include it. Examples: Helpful threads about OOTP, sites explaining Baseball strategy, recommended books about Baseball, fictional league idea, why certain statistics are important, etc. Please Contribute Any Helpful Links or Information You Might Have Thank you very much:-) OOTP Community Wiki HomePage http://ootpwiki.info/tiki-index.php?page=HomePage OOTP 15 Online Manual http://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/...php?man=ootp15 Official Sites of Various Baseball Leagues: The Official Site of Major League Baseball MLB.com: The Official Site of Major League Baseball The Official Site of Minor League Baseball http://www.milb.com/index.jsp [league redacted] Official Website http://www.***.or.jp/eng/ Australian Baseball League Official Website http://web.theabl.com.au/index.jsp Official Site of The Mexican League Baseball http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=l125 Baseball History http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...n-formats.html http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...tory-ootp.html Shows the teams, nicknames, and affiliations by year for pretty much every minor league since 1901. http://minorleaguesource.com/minor.html A direct link to the page of SABR member Cliff Blau which summarizes the transaction rule changes MLB has undergone over the years. http://members.dslextreme.com/users/brak2.0/rules.htm Plenty of information on the ballparks of the past and present. You missed a very important baseball statistics site: Retrosheet.org
On that site you can find box scores for MLB games from 1914-2013, along with plenty of other things. |

OOTP Community Wiki | The Knowledge Page I need to sit down for a day or so and contemplate how best to start tying the wiki pages together, I have been so busy with the server and getting a base of pages & other examples that I have just kept putting it off, but it's reached a size now that I seriously need to make decisions then we can have more useful portal type pages for various subjects to share rather than a bunch of individual ones. it's going to take a good 18-24 months to start getting the wiki embedded into the culture around here so we are well aware it's not a short term project

I have a question about the link about the ideal distribution of minor leaguers in the OP. Why would you limit your minor league teams to such a small number of players? I've noticed that as the seasons go by, my minor league teams end up growing bigger and bigger (to around 50+ people on each team). Sure, a lot of these guys have little to no playing time but is there any reason to release them? Even for the seemingly hopeless prospects, there's always a chance they could suddenly show a lot of potential, which happens quite often in OOTP. Can it hurt at all to have a bunch of scrubs just sit on the bench if they are willing to?
