Cutting a player with a player option after a team option

I have a player with the following contract:

2018 $15m
2019 $16m team option w/ $2M buyout
2020 $18m player option

If I cut him, it adds to my expenses his salary from 2018 (fine), his buyout for 2019 (fine), and his entire $18m salary for 2020 (problem).

Shouldn’t he not get anything for 2020? It's recognizing that I am not exercising the team option, doesn't that wipe out the player option?

Have you tried to actually cut him to see what happens? I mean, I've had a player whose salary was being paid by another team, and he had some options or something that should not have been an issue, but the game warned me I would be paying a lot for cutting him, including his current salary. But after cutting him, it didn't actually make me pay. So it may be a bug in the warning.

That’s a good point, but yes I actually cut him and then checked my finances screen. His entire salary for the player option year was added to wherever it goes, misc expenses I think, for that year.

I think it is a bug. You should be charged for the buyout and nothing for 2020.

This is one of the reasons we have banned player options / opt outs after a team option year in my online league. The other being that it's kind of a cheap way to entice the player to sign. They don't seem to recognize that the player option year as basically a $0 value.
