OOTPB Manual, Game Guide, and Customization Guide
Welcome to the Manual, Game Guide, and Customization Guide thread!
The original intent was to have one manual for the game. But as the complexity of the game grew, so did the scope of the manual. Ultimately, it became clear that a somewhat more basic manual would need to be delivered with the game. But, the full monster was certainly a formidable resource, and not one that we wished to hold back from the community. As a result, OOTPB has both a Manual and a Game Guide. The Manual The Manual is designed to give users enough information to get started. It has information about most of the basic aspects of the game, but does not go into too much detail. The Manual comes in the installer package when you download the game, but a copy can be downloaded here: OOTPB 2006 Manual (comes with the game installer) (Version 1) The Game Guide The Game Guide is 350+ pages of detail about the game. It includes screen-by-screen descriptions of every screen in the game, as well as numerous sections that go into more detail on some of the trickier concepts in the game, such as the player rating model, transactions, and online leagues. The Game Guide is a "superset" of the Manual. That is, everything that is in the Manual is covered in the Game There is nothing in the manual that is not also covered in the Game Guide. The Game Guide is only available by download. A copy can be downloaded here: OOTPB 2006 Game Guide (download only) (Version 1.1) The Customization Guide The OOTPB Customization Guide is designed to give modders all the information they need to customize OOTPB to suit their needs. The Customization Guide is being released in serial fashion, with regular updates as new information is completed. This is version 1.2, and includes the following completed topics: - Customing player photos, including the default player photo (*NEW* ) - Customizing names - Customizing nations and cities - Customizing team and league logos - Customizing injuries - Overview on .csv files - Overview on editing OOTPB text files using Microsoft Excel We have plenty more information to come over the next few weeks; skins, schedules, ballparks, and more. So, without further ado, click here to download the Customization Guide. Please don't hesistate to give feedback on the guide, ask for clarification if it's unclear, or point out flaws in the guide. Props The "pretty" version was Le Grande Orange's work. He took my clumsy Word/PDF version and made it beautiful. Amazing work. I believe his intent is to pretty-ize the Game Guide as well, but that will take some time. For now, we wanted to make sure it was available for you to enjoy, even in "ugly format." M's Rule did the editing of the Game Guide, and Dan Theman did the editing required to cut the Game Guide down to the more manageable Manual. Couldn't have done it without them. Feedback Wanted There is always room for improvement. Please do not hesitate to post in this thread if you have questions that aren't answered in the manual or game guide, if a description seems unclear or inaccurate, or if you have a question that isn't covered in the manual. We're always open to constructive criticism! Thanks, Steve Battisti Last edited by battists; 06-15-2006 at 10:32 AM. |

My g0d, man. This is beautiful looking. Easily the best release I've seen from you guys.
Steve- absolutely fantastic. I'm not a particularly fanboyish guy (sorry!) but I'm really impressed. Well done.

The link for the manual isn't active.
It's easy enough to copy and paste the URL into a browser though. |

Fantastic work on this. Completely fantastic.
Minor note: there is an "Error! Reference source not found" on page 137 of the Game Guide, underneath the Upcoming Free Agents Subpage picture.

Took me a loooooonnng while to download, too, but well worth the trouble.
After a very quick leaf through, the manual and guide look spectacular, gents. I hope you got paid for your hard (and very marketable) work! |

It's refreshing to see that a company is willing to produce a really helpful user's guide/manual and not charge the public another $29.99. Thanks SI and all that helped put this together.

Thanks from me to Steve, LGO, M's rule and Dan Theman - you're all my heroes. And Marc, thanks for giving me some laugh at your Comical Ali routine today, I'm still not quite sure how you were able (or how you were allowed) to pull it off. Last edited by Sdpm100; 05-31-2006 at 04:15 PM. |

Question - answer not found in Manual, clarification requested.
When it comes to saving Box Scores & Game Logs, I'm trying to determine the difference between Human Leagues, Human Organizations, & Human Teams. Human Teams is pretty straight forward. (This would be any teams controlled by humans) Human Organization? Human Leagues? Does Human Leagues mean something like this - say I create a universe identical to real MLB with AAA, AA, A, A Advanced, & Rookie. I decide I want to just Commish for a while first. If I select Save Box Scores from Human Leagues, will it only save the Box Scores from the ML, or from all levels? Organization - is that a team, a league, a universe? Thanks for any help provided on this. |
