In the top of the first, Combs put the Yankees on the board with an RBI single.

In the top of the second, Collins got an RBI single.

In the top of the third, Gehrig hit a two-run homer 375 feet.

In the bottom of the fourth, Todt put the Red Sox on the board with an RBI double. Shaner scored from third when Koenig booted a Regan grounder. Todt then scored on a wild pitch to make it a one-run game. Tobin tied the game with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Rothrock put the Red Sox in the lead with a two-out RBI single.

After six: Boston 5 New York 4.

In the bottom of the eighth, Rothrock struck again with two out, this time hitting a two-run double to put the game away. With Rothrock at second and two out, Bob Shawkey took the mound for the Yankees and prevented Rothrock from scoring.

In the top of the ninth, the Yankees loaded the bases with one out. Combs flew to left for the second out. Ruth did the same to end the game.

The two teams combined for 21 hits and the Yankees committed three errors.

In the bottom of the third, Judge put the Senators in the lead with an RBI triple. Judge, however, would be thrown out at home by Meusel when he tagged up and tried to score on a Speaker fly ball.

In the bottom of the fourth, Braxton extended the Senators lead with a two-out two-run triple. Myer brought Braxton home with a single. Goslin brought two more home with a triple of his own. In the top of the fifth, Combs got a run-scoring single with two out.

A Dugan single combined with a Rice error brought two runners home. An intentional walk reloaded the bases with one out. Pipgras brought a run home with a single. Meusel grounded into the 6-2 fielder's choice for the second out. Combs then brought three runs in with a triple. With Combs at third and two out, Lou Koupal took the mound for the Senators. Gehrig made it an eight-run inning with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Goslin led off with a 394 foot home run. The Senators went on to load the bases with one out. Gillis grounded into the 1-2 fielder's choice for the second out. Pigras then struck out Koupal to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bluege got an RBI single. The Senators went on to load the bases with nobody out. Pinch hitter Mickey O'Neil drew a four-pitch walk to force in a run. Mayberry went down on strikes for the first out. Myer beat out the 3-6-3 to bring home a run. Tate scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the first, Manush put the Tigers on the board with a two-out RBI double.

In the top of the second, the Yankees loaded the bases with two out. But Meusel grounded to third and the Yankees failed to score.

In the top of the third, Lazzeri tied the game with an RBI single. The Yankees went on to load the bases with two out again. Morehart then drew a four-pitch walk to give the Yankees the lead before Pennock flew to left to retire the side.

In the bottom of the third, Gehringer tied the game with an RBI triple. Heilmann followed with an RBI single to give the Tigers the lead back. The Tigers went on to load the bases with one out. Pennock struck out Wingo and there were two away. Tavener, however, came through with a two-run single.

After three: Detroit 5 New York 2.

In the top of the fourth, the Yankees yet again loaded the bases with two out. But Collins flew to left to retire the side.

In the top of the fifth, with a runner on second and two out, Lloyd Brown took the mound for the Tigers and kept the runner from advancing.

After six: Detroit 5 New York 2.

In the top of the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Ken Holloway took the mound for the Tigers. Lazzeri picked up RBI number 30 with a two-out run-scoring triple.

The Yankees lost despite getting 14 hits in the game.

Final score: Detroit 5 New York 3.
