Salary Cap

Active rosters should be limited to a certain number of player points. Going up against 100 player teams is no fun and after a short while silver and Gold players are useless. Keep the variety in the game and allow all players a chance to win. The cap should be something like the sum of the amount of players on the active roster X 75. That way you can still get your favorite players but have to sacrifice somewhere.


You can then make missions where teams must be of one team, or a particular year or both etc, etc.

Tournaments are the place to go for salary cap play.

Honestly, even tankers should be allowed to play any cards they want.

Unfortunately, the realities of the way this game has been built and balanced (at least thus far, since we technically don't know fully about 21 yet) means that this completely disrupts the in game economy and therefore must be prevented manually by deliberate dev and/or admin team actions.

Tanking does NOT "completely disrupt the game economy". Tanking isn't even a blip in the game economy. What disrupted the game economy was the introduction of tournaments. Free packs and 6-figure cards passed out like candy. Shortly thereafter the prices for many premium cards collapsed, now that was disruptive!

Historical packs for coin did way worse damage to the economy than two-odd handful of historical diamonds and perfects for free could ever do.

My nod for 'what ruined the economy' goes to Fan Service "special" cards and perectflation.

The tournaments simply compounded it.

The game life is over, it's fine if top level cards are much cheaper now.

Collections threw the biggest wrench into it. I fear next year will be disastrous now that everyone knows every single card will be a component of a mission. Why would you ever sell a historical whose mission hasn't been released yet? Collections make cards people might actually want to play with nearly impossible to get.

Fun is where you find it

The fun is scheming a way to create a team that can win a Perfect League - cash obviously works, but the FTP guys get there and win too. So it can be done.

It'll take a lot of luck to put a team together worthy of standing a chance of making the playoffs in perfect, but if you're a luckbox, it's technically possible. I'm guessing someone will luckbox their way to perfect and do that. Probably won't be me though.

Nope. I'm convinced that you have no shot against power spenders in 21. If you have one or two 130-win teams in your Perfect League, you have a chance to tumble over them to a title. If the entire PL is what would be 130-win teams, you ain't got no chance.

You are correct. I have no shot. I will not take the time to play the auction house and join the tournaments to the level I would need to in order to compete at the tip top highest levels.

However, I do predict that there will be at least 1 try-hard FTP team that will grind enough to eventually have a team that wins a Perfect League (I assume there will be more than 1 by the time this happens, hence the indefinite article). Of course, it will be completely indistinguishable from those who paid in money to grow their teams...

One thing I've learned is to never underestimate how much time someone out there is willing to put into grinding a video game.

There is an upper limit to how good a team a whale can have, once you have the 25 best players then all the F2P teams will be closing the gap.

You two do seem to be arguing different things though. A 90-win caliber "perfect" league team in 20 could get lucky by drawing a weak league or getting hot in the playoffs to get a "perfect" title. That isn't going to happen next year.

However there are F2P teams now that are indistinguishable if not better than whale teams. Throw in some lefty cheese or whatever new way there is to cheat the system next version and by the end of the game life cycle someone will have done it. It depends on how collections, tournaments, sandbagging, live upgrades, etc all interact but there will be a way to generate massive quantities of points and people will figure it out.
