Question on "Spring Traing Starts" after playing an entire season.

I've completed the OOTP19 Phillies season and have gone all the way through the winter including Free Agency. I'm now at Spring Training Starts. I plan on buying OOTP20, so how far do I go with 19? Do I stop here and import the 19 game into 20? If I continue to scroll by dates in the 19 version before buying the 20 game what happens? Thanks for your help in advance.

Yeah you can import the game from one version to the next, so carry on.

You can import at any time. We generally recommend it most when you're not concerned with AI moves as much, since there will be a flurry of activity as the new algorithms take over. Generally speaking, I would recommend:
-Immediately after the playoffs end/First day of the off-season (AI in fluxx anyways, so have full winter to adjust)
-First day of FA (again, most time to adjust, with likely very few outstanding contract offers)
-First day of the season (rosters already in fluxx, although perhaps importing a day or two earlier might prevent them from wanting to take back someone who was already cut).

There are always some things that will only start populating after you update - for example, you won't be able to see spray charts for any OOTP-19 or earlier games, they will only show "new" data. And as mentioned, the first day you upgrade, the AI will likely have many roster moves. If that's not a concern to you, though, then any day you upgrade will be fine. Worst case they might have a trade or contract negotiation where someone is suddenly insulted by the offer while they may have accepted it before.

the best feature of OOTP is carrying a dynasty over from one version to the next. when I first found the game, that blew my mind & hooked ever since.

I have always imported first day of offseason & never had a problem. hardest part is lining that date up with the next OOTP release. you can import at any time though.

I'm struggling mightily with this right now. I have 2 games + playoffs left in my season. I really want to update during the offseason, so I've actually resorted to playing other games and watching TV. Yeah, it's been brutal. Just 11 more days though!

I'm on the opposite end.

maybe 70 games in & want to play OOTP immediately on beta. I play out every game so hitting it hard to try & get through this season for 20.

probably good idea to wait a few weeks after release to continue the dynasty so it shouldn't be a problem

since you played 2018 out, it doesn't matter at all. your RL history ends at 2017 and your ootp history begins after that in that particular league you created. play as much as you want.
