Stuff: SP and RP

I know an RP gets a boost to stuff, as he doesn't need the arsenal of pitches that a starter does and the game compensates for that.
So if you convert a starter to RP you can see that boost reflected in the ratings. What happens if you don't change a SP's position but use him in relief? Does the game recognize that and give him the boost?

This is an issue in the playoffs when the team goes to a 3-man rotation and some starters are now used as relievers. Should I convert all those starters to relief pitchers?

Don't forget that what you are looking at with this "boost to stuff" is not actual performance, but ratings which are merely predictors of performance. An SP's stuff should do better in small doses, the game is saying. That should be true no matter what you choose for his pitching role. I say "should" because ratings are no guarantee of actual performance.

I may have this wrong but... I am pretty confident that the selected role does not determine the ratings bump, the role they are used in in the game determines it. The change we see is informational so we can see what the game is doing.
I am only 90% on this, I always change my roles for the playoffs. I also sit pitchers in the playoffs.

If you use players with SP as the position in relief, then they are fine the first appearance. The problem lies after that as the stamina is recovered like a starter not a reliever (i.e. he'll take like 4 days until he is available again rather than 1 or 2).

My recommendation is to set the pitcher position to match his usage.

I did not know that! That alone makes it worth changing the setting.
