Just set an NL record
In my historical 1970 season, Amos Otis, playing for my San Diego Padres, just broke the N.L. record with six hits in a game. Of course, IRL Rennie Stennett of the Pirates holds the record with seven, set a few years later.

Six hits in a nine-inning game isn't THAT rare. It happened 18 times in the NL from 1915-1964.

I remember Johnny Damon doing this a few years back. Is 6 also the AL record?

Here is the list of players with six hits in a nine-inning game.
Rare Feats | MLB.com I saw a mention that having six singles in a nine-inning game has been done 18 times.

Ah, but you're forgetting this was pre-expansion AND limited to one league. The point I was trying to make is that it's not "rare" in the same sense as Tony Cloninger's two grand slams.
