GM and Manager hands down.
It's our dreams to run a baseball team in both aspects, and this game gives me the opportunity to do that Dan Jennings style.

I play as GM and manager but just for the lineups and strategy...I don't play them out...I voted this as GM only...yes?
There is always that guy who complicates the simple! |

I don't always play OOTP for fun... but when I do, I play GM/MGR.

Here is how I see it:
Pluses of managing games while being the Gm are that you really get to know the intricacies of your 25 man roster in terms of righties, lefties, defense, subs, bullpen, what players are right for which situations. The drawback (and benefit of just being GM) is that you don't get to know your organization or league as well. When your the GM and just pop-on real time to follow games, it allows you to follow your teams game (but not in as much detail as if you were managing) but you also get to follow other games around your league and in your organization, all while checking out other rosters, minor league systems and maybe even exploring trade options. So the way I see it there are advantages and disadvantages to both, which is why I asked, what's most fun? Last edited by PSUColonel; 05-05-2017 at 10:42 PM. |

Manager only.
You haven't experienced the true high and lows baseball can bring until you are just getting comfortable enough with your team and see your GM taking away your RBI leader (and second of the league at the start of June) for no apparent reason. That would be the low. The high being you discovering the guy you were sitting on the bench for the first two months was poorly scouted and plays like an MVP the rest of the season. That was the ONE roster move (other than injuries/call ups) my GM made. Waived my starting RF to make room for a trade involving an older, less effective OF...whom I benched for a few games and that allowed me to discover that gem that was sitting on my bench that whole time. For some very, very inexplicable reason, I play FHM3 the opposite way. Over there I'm GM only, playing with my Ottawa Senators since their 1992-1993 comeback. |

And it takes a very special kind of person to want to manage only in this game. Especially in the minor leagues.

I have OOTP, Gold Edition. You can become a player, and your interactions can influence your team. It is awesome.

Nope. OOTP Gold is the premier edition, even better than OOTP+.

For me it's either General Manager or General Manager & Manager. Playing as just a manager doesn't give me enough control and freedom.
