Even though you already made up your mind, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents into the mix. As someone who is currently playing one of the competitors games, and as someone who has played ootp since version 2, if you are only going to go with one game, go with ootp. It's really an easy decision imho.

Forget the fact that ootp's main competitor "comes" with mlb players, because in actuality, it just comes with the Lehman database, which ootp already supports anyway. You'll just need to download it from Lehman's site as a few people have already mentioned above. And while it does a decent job of importing "real" players, those created by the lehman database will pale in comparison to any 2006 MLB roster set created by the ootp community.

Once you get everything installed and up and running (logo's, stadiums, rosters, photo packs, etc.), which is a fairly easy process, no game will come close to ootp as a MLB sim.

Also, here are no other communities that supports a baseball sim like the one here. So you can always look forward to updated rosters, logo, and just about anything else you can think of, to use in a baseball sim.

While I've only played v5 and for only about 6 months, I'm back anxiously awaiting this game. Don't even consider going elsewhere! This is by far the best out there. Lets say you buy the game and after about 2 months you get bored with it. I'm going to say you probably still got at least $.50 / hour of enjoyment out of it and you will be hard pressed to find a better deal.
