Real Life Player Progression in Historical Drafts

For example, Say you begin a historical game in 2004 and go through the season as the Angels. During the draft someone like Felix Hernandez is available along with Francisco Liriano. We all know Felix is the better pitcher in real life, but the AI drafts Liriano ahead of him. Does the game randomize how well these guys will actually be (even though we know who turns out to be better)? How does the AI handle player development with real-life historical players?

I ask because I’m very interested to play a historical season (and eventually play multiple seasons) at some point and I feel it’d be hard not to pass on a guy like Felix or Trout with my pick if they’re available just because I know how it turned out in real life.

I’m not saying I disagree with this because I like if the game is randomizing this to an extent, otherwise the drafts would be boring. I’m just more curious how their development is determined.

It depends on whether you have recalc turned on or not. With recalc on, the players ratings get recalculated every season(?), based on individual seasons or 3-year averages. With recalc turned off, player development is subject to the whims of the OOTP development engine.

Thanks!

What's the consensus on how most people handle this? I think I'll be doing a historic league at some point with '16, but would rather the there be some randomness to how a player will develop because it would make the draft way too easy.

Also, one thing I've noticed on videos I've watched it seems like when Felix and Hanley come into the draft in 2005 they're already basically MLB ready. I'd like to let them develop in the minors a little bit otherwise it kind of cheapens the talent pool and free agency.

There is a modded database you can use that imports all new players at age 18.

Could you point me in this direction (and hopefully how to import it into the game)?

Thanks!

I sent a pm to forum member "The Game" and asked if he could help you. I would screw you up. Not too computer savvy.
