Help a n00b with the "Overall Ratings Based on AI Evaluations

I just downloaded the demo of this game to see if it would spark my interest since I've given up "video" games a long time ago in favor of deep fantasy baseball leagues. Anyways, this has hooked me in and I know I've only barely peeled the layers off of this game. I will be buying the '16 version when it's released.

Anyways, I've attached a screenshot of 2 checkboxes in the "Game Setup" screen. I reviewed the manual and to be honest was still confused. Could someone explain to me like I was 5 what checking (or leaving unchecked) means?

I think the 2nd checkbox just means by checking it someone like Mike Trout would be just as good at C as he would be in LF/CF.

Your screenshot is not showing up for me, but I think I understand your question. The 2nd checkbox means that Mike Trout is rated as he compares to all position players, not just outfielders. It does not mean that he is a 5-star catcher. It means that he is a 5-star overall player.

If you have it set by position, then the best player at each position will be a 5-star rated player. However, the stars will NOT be directly comparable to other positions.

If you have it set to all positions, then the best catcher might be a 3.5-star player compared to Cabrera (at the top).

It depends on how you want to view things.

Thanks! What is the "consensus" on how people set that up? I would think the most realistic and life-like option would be to have the best Catcher (just an example, because Yadi is very valuable in other ways) wouldn't be equal to the best overall player in the game.

Let it be based on AI evaluation and choose the setting so that players are rated relative to all players and not by position.

Otherwise, if you're holding an inaugural draft or doing an amateur draft, it becomes difficult to quickly filter players and really discern who the best overall players are.
