The Raccoons aren't dead yet. We swept our way to the WS, but are facing the very tough Team To Be Determined who defeated the equally tough Wilmington Blue Rocks. We're down 3-2 at the moment and have the slightly less perfect Perfect Pedro pitching vs their Waite Hoyt.

I finally got Lee Smith for my bullpen. Unfortunately, I couldn't get him before the WS started. He's down to 115k (like Eck) which is quite the drop from just a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the players I wanted to sell have also dropped in price significantly.

P447 was won by the Brooklyn Cyclones. I have lost a bunch of open tourneys to these guys also. Great team!

OK, now we're dead. We lost 7-5.

We did win some major awards again this year and won 122 games so I'm pleased with how we did overall.

Reliever of the Year was Walter Johnson (Seaver won last year)
Pitcher of the Year was Schilling (3rd straight year!)
MVP was Boggs (Ruth won last year)
Great Glove Award for Suzuki (his 11th straight!)

Paragon City win their first PL championship, we got very lucky that springfield beat the LA Bruins

Gabby Hartnett won 2 series MVPs he hit over .400 in the playoffs, Bob Lemon pitched 15 scoreless innings over two starts in the series

Our pitching and defence was exceptional all season and through the playoffs and definitely carried us

For the season Frank Chance won great bat at 1b and Lefty Gomez won pitcher of the year

After taking out Huntley in 5 in the Division Series, the Utah Stingers finished the job, defeating the Pistol Pete Cowboys in 6 and the Murphy BRMest 1985 in a sweep to win the 2055 P455 Perfect League championship. The Stingers now have an Iron, a Bronze, 2 Silver, a Gold, a Diamond, and 4 Perfect championships. Again, a friendly suggestion to team owner norton: the Utah Medallions. Think about it!

Huntley represented well in the postseason awards. The Red Raiders actually won more Great Gloves (2) than Platinum Sticks (1), which has to be a first in team history (and speaks to what the unexpected weakness of the team was!); SS Ozzie Smith (4.36 RF, +14.6 ZR, 1.070 EFF) and CF Ken Griffey Jr (3.03 RF, +14.1 ZR, 1.049 EFF) took home the Great Gloves, and surprisingly, the Platinum Stick also went to Ozzie (.287/.362/.396, 18 SB, 112 wRC+, 5.4 WAR). So, all in all, a successful debut for the Wizard of Oz in Red Raiders garb.

Ironically, the man most responsible for the Division Series defeat, Mariano Rivera (losses in games 2 and 5), took home the AC Reliever of the Year Award, based on his league-leading 47 saves, 1.91 ERA, 222 ERA+, and 2.3 WAR. And Rube Waddell, whose 1.2-IP, 5-ER meltdown in game 1 got the Division Series off to an awful start, claimed the AC Pitcher of the Year Award (20-7, 2.47 ERA, 222 K, 0.2 HR/9, 10.0 K/9, 172 ERA+, 7.0 WAR). Reflective of the season as a whole, the best the Red Raiders placed in the AC MVP Award was third (Mickey Mantle, .291/.389/.486, 140 OPS+, 5.6 WAR), with Waddell the only other top-10 finisher (10th).

Congrats to all the 2055 champions (especially waittilnextyear, whose 6 next to his PL medallion does not make Huntley's 5 envious; nope, not at all), and good luck next season!

The Mashers finished 90-72, good for first in their division by a hair. Zack Wheeler led the conference in wins and ERA.

In the division series, the Mashers easily swept the Mexico City Frijoles behind strong pitching performances from Wheeler, Woodruff, and Syndergaard.

Wheeler didn't pitch so great to start the sub-league series against the Kilkenny Castile, but new acquisition Buck O'Neil ended game 1 with a walk-off double. After trading a few close games, Wheeler pitched well enough on short rest to give the Mashers a 3-2 series lead. Unfortunately, a largely bullpen effort fell short in the potential game 6 clincher, as Kirby Yates gave up the tying runs on the back half of a six-out save. Medford then turned to Noah Syndergaard, who went an unlucky 4-17 in the regular season. Syndergaard did not disappoint in his moment in the spotlight, pitching 7 strong innings and keeping the game within reach for Andrelton Simmons, who knocked in the go-ahead run in the 8th before 89 Seaver shut down the Castile in a 7-pitch 9th to send the Mashers to the finals.

On regular rest, Wheeler continued to campaign for a Cy Young nomination with 7.2 innings of 2-run ball in a game 1 victory. Unfortunately, his team let him down in games 2 and 3, losing each by one run. He took the hill on short rest in a crucial game 4 and was mediocre, allowing four runs. But in the late innings, O'Neil and co. staged a dramatic comeback, scoring one in the 6th and three in the 7th, capping it off with a walk-off HR from pinch hitter Adrian Gonzalez in what was likely his last meaningful at-bat with the team. Syndergaard failed to keep the momentum going in game 5 as the Mashers fell 9-2. With the season on the line, Brandon Woodruff delivered a quality start in game 6 and the bats did the rest, forcing a game 7 with both teams' aces going on short rest in what promised to be a tense game. The promise held up for six innings; as neither starter was particularly effective. Each allowed four runs over that span. But then, with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the 7th against Billy Wagner, Buck O'Neil delivered a bases-clearing double, breaking open the game. The bullpen took it home to secure the Mashers' second Gold League title. Andrelton Simmons was named series MVP for batting .333 with 1 HR, 2 3B, and 7 RBI.

Time to get smacked around in Diamond again.
