Murphy struck out Ford to start the third to record his 50th K of the season. Murphy was perfect through three as the Rangers latest scoreless streak reached 23 innings.

Broberg had not allowed a hit in three innings himself.

Stanton got the first hit of the game for either team with a 2 out triple in the fourth. Cardenas then got an RBI single. As did Cepeda.

Billings drew a one out walk in the fifth to end Murphy's perfection. But Murphy still had a no-hitter through six. As the Rangers had gone 26 straight innings without scoring a run.

After six: California 2 Texas 0.

With two out in the eighth, Ford broke up the no-hitter with a base hit to center field. It would be the only hit of the game for the Rangers as they suffered their third straight shutout loss.

Llenas got an RBI in the second on a groundball out.

In the top of the third, a sacrifice fly by Biittner finally ended the Rangers scoring drought at 31 innings.

Texas loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Harris gave the Rangers the lead with an RBI single. Harrah and Biittner also had RBI singles as the Rangers scored 3 in the inning.

Oates cut into the Texas lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth.

Burroughs led off the top of the fifth with a home run.

McMullen answered in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double.

Clyde Wright took the mound for the Angels in the sixth. He struck out Bosman for his 20th K of the season.

Dave Sells took the mound for the Angels in the eighth. For the second straight inning, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. Burroughs then smacked a 2-RBI double as the Rangers hit double-digits in runs for the game. Howard followed up with an RBI groundout. Lovitto added an RBI single to record his 10th RBI of the season. Lovitto would score on a throwing error. The Rangers would bat around the order and score 5 runs in the inning.

Biittner led off the ninth with a single and the Angels went to the bullpen and brought out Don Rose. This time, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Billings added a sac fly to the blowout.

Former Ranger Randle hit his first homer of the season while playing for Oakland, a solo shot in the second inning.

Casey Cox came in to begin the fifth for the Rangers.

The Athletics loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth. Cox then walked Epstein to bring in a run. An error brought in another run. Cox then walked Brooks to bring in yet another run. It was the first RBI of the season for Brooks. Hunter followed with an RBI single for the fourth unearned run of the inning and Cox was pulled for Jim Panther. Panther proceeded to throw a wild pitch that scored another run before finally getting the third out.

Epstein hit a solo home run in the seventh.

Mike Garman made his debut in the bottom of the eighth for the Rangers.

Meanwhile, Catfish Hunter became the fourth pitcher in five game to have a complete game shutout against the Rangers.

In the first inning, the Athletics loaded the bases with nobody out. Hand then walked Epstein to bring in the first run of the game. Hendrick then grounded into a double play but a second run scored. Oakland got 2 runs on just 1 hit as Hand walked 4 in the inning.

The Rangers loaded the bases in the top of the third with two outs on three walks. King then scored on a wild pitch as Texas had its first run but still did not have its first hit.

In the bottom of the third, Randle again made the Rangers pay for trading him away, this time with a two-run homer.

Burroughs gave the Rangers their first hit in the fourth inning with a solo home run.

After six: Oakland 4 Texas 2.

The Athletics had a runner at first and two out in the seventh when Hand was pulled for Paul Lindblad and he got the final out of the inning.

Hamilton walked pinch hitter Tom Grieve to begin the eighth and was pulled for Bob Locker. Locker immediately struck out Harrah to record his 30th K of the season. But then Howard tied the game with a 2-run double with two outs. Lovitto then followed up with an RBI triple and the Rangers had the lead. Ford then got an RBI single to make it 2 run game. And Locker was gone in favor of Diego Segui who got the final out of the frame.

Horacio Pina came in to pitch for the Rangers in the eighth. Pina got through the eighth unscathed, but he did hit Randle with a pitch.

Pina got through the ninth as well as the Rangers salvaged a split in the double header.

Braun led off the game with a single, his 100th hit of the season.

In the top of the third, the Twins loaded the bases with one out. Broberg then struck out Darwin to record his 90th K of the season before getting Brye to fly out to retire the side with no damage done.

Kaat struck out Maddox to end the bottom of the third and get his 80th K of the season.

Broberg still had a shutout going through six innings, but suffered a hand injury and had to leave the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Nelson singled to reach the 100 hit plateau as well. Later in the inning, Biittner put the Rangers on the board with a 2-run double. The Rangers went on to load the bases with one out. Pinch hitter Vic Harris then drew a walk before Maddox grounded out to end the inning.

After six: Texas 3 Minnesota 0.

Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers in the seventh. Braun tried to put the Twins on the board but Holt was thrown out at home trying to score from second.

Mike Garman then came in to pitch the ninth. Tony Oliva hit a 2-run pinch hit homer to make it a one run game. Braun followed up with his 5th hit of the game, to tie an AL regular season game record. The Twins then loaded the bases with two out before Nettles flew out to end the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Mangual gave the Rangers the lead back with a solo home run, his first of the season.

In the top of the eighth, Burroughs prevented the tying run from scoring, throwing Holt out at home after catching a flyball.

Wayne Granger took the mound for the Twins in the bottom of the eighth. The Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out but failed to score.

In the top of the ninth, the Twins loaded the bases with one out. Mitterwald then tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Holt added a 2-run double to give the Twins the lead. It brought his season RBI total to 30.

Dave LaRoche took the mound for the Twins in the ninth. Again, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. Harrah got his 30th RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly and then Biittner tied the game with a run-scoring single and got his 30th RBI as well.

Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers in the tenth.

Jim Strickland took the mound for the Twins with one out in the eleventh.

Horacio Pina then came on for the Rangers to pitch the 12th. Pina struck out Eric Soderholm to get his 40th K of the season. Carew then gave the Twins the lead with an RBI double.

Tom Norton was the new Twins pitcher in the bottom of the 12th. He got the 1-2-3 to end the game.

Carew put the Twins on the board in the first with an RBI single. Brye added his own RBI single.

Pinch hitter Tony Oliva added his own RBI single. Finally, Panther was pulled for Paul Lindblad and bases were still loaded and nobody was out. Carew then crushed a three run double as the Twins batted around the order in the 6 run inning.

Wayne Granger took the mound for the Twins in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Nettles added a sac fly for the Twins. The Twins then loaded the bases with one out before Eric Soderholm ground into the inning ending double play.

Jim Strickland then took the mound in the ninth for the Twins and easily kept the Rangers from mounting any kind of comeback.

The first run of the game went to the Twins in the second inning thanks to a sac fly by Mitterwald.

Thompson added an RBI triple in the third. Carew then brought Thompson home with a groundout.

Harris gave the Rangers a rare lead over the White Sox with an RBI single in the second.

Harrah got his 100th hit of the season in the top of the first. Burroughs came up with an RBI single as did Biittner as the Rangers put a pair on the board in the first inning.

Egan put the White Sox on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the second.

Brober was called for a balk in the bottom of the third and that scored Kelly from third to tie the game. Andrews then gave the White Sox the lead when he scored on a Broberg wild pitch. Also in the third, Allen got his 10th stolen base of the season and he went on to score on an error by Lovitto. The White Sox would then load the bases with two out and add another un on a Nelson throwing error before Lemonds struck out in his second at bat of the inning to finally end the disaster of an inning for the Rangers.

In the fourth inning, the White Sox loaded the bases with nobody out. Melton then hit a sac fly for his 50th RBI of the season. Williams added a 2 run double.

Maddox began the top of the fifth with a walk and the Twins went to the bullpen and brought out Jim Strickland and he got out of the inning without giving up a run.

Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the fifth. Rich Reese added to the Twins lead with a pinch hit RBI single.

Dave LaRoche took the mound for the Twins in the sixth.

Mike Garman did the same for the Rangers in the bottom of the sixth.

After six: Minnesota 8 Texas 2.

The Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the seventh. Biittner put a run on the board with a sacrifice fly. But, again, one run was all the Rangers could get.

Wayne Granger took the mound for the Twins in the top of the eighth.

Jim Panther came on to pitch for the Rangers in the bottom of the eighth. He got the only man he faced out and then Paul Lindblad came in. He got his man out and then was replaced by Horacio Pina. And the Twins loaded the bases on Pina. Nettles drew a walk to bring home a run. A wild pitch scored another one. Holt added a 2-run single before Pina finally got the opposing pitcher to strike out to end the inning.

In the top of the third, Ford threw Patek out at home to end the inning as the KC baserunner was trying to score from second on a single by Otis.

The very next batter was Harrah and he singled to give the Rangers their first hit of the game. Yastrzemski put the Red Sox on the board with an RBI single but Burroughs threw Griffin out at home on the play as the Boston baserunner was trying to score from second. Petrocelli then brought Yastrzemski home with a double.

Griffin made up for his base running in the first by coming up with an RBI single in the third.

Boston added another run in the top of the fifth, courtesy of a throwing error by Ford. Ex-Ranger Mincher followed up with a 2-run double.

Casey Cox began the top of the sixth on the mound for the Rangers.

Meanwhile, Tiant had only allowed 2 hits the first six innings.

Cox struck out Aparicio to close out the top of the seventh. It was K number 20 on the season for Cox.

In the top of the second, Maddox threw Aparicio out at home as the Boston base runner tried to score from second on a single by Montgomery. This robbed Montgomery from what would have been his first RBI of the season.

The pitchers dominated the middle innings.

The next three innings went the same way.

After nine: Boston 0 Texas 0.

The Red Sox got a leadoff single in the top of the eleventh from Griffin and that led to Horacio Pina replacing Bosman on the mound. A 4-6-3 ended Boston's half of the inning and there was still no score.

The Rangers got a man on first with one out in the bottom of the eleventh and Boston went to the bullpen and brought out Bobby Bolin. A double play lineout ended the inning.

The Red Sox loaded the bases with two out in the top of the twelfth. But Griffin grounded out to retire the side.

Roger Moret took the mound for Boston in the bottom of the twelfth. The Rangers loaded the bases with one out. And again failed to score.

Paul Lindblad came in to pitch in the thirteenth inning. He began the inning by striking out Smith for his 30th K of the season.

In the bottom of the thirteenth, Nelson finally sent us home with a 2-run walk off home run.

Final score: Texas 2 Boston 0 13 innings.
