Record: 13-4, 1st, 3.5 GA Springfield
Down 1-0, St. Louis scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning and held on for a 4-2 win over Des Moines at LaBatt Park.
A Cody Bellinger solo homer off River Walkers starter Argenis Batista in the fourth inning had put the Harvesters in front.
But St. Louis busted loose against Des Moines starter Yonny Chirinos in the top of the sixth.
It happened fairly quickly -- in a span of three batters.
Bo Bichette got things rolling with a one-out single and scored when Carlos Vidal followed with a double.
Andrew Benintendi then drew a 3-1 pitch from Chirinos 372 feet over the right-field wall, and all of a sudden the Walkers owned a 3-1 lead.
Three straight singles off Omar Benetiz followed by a bases-loaded walk to Tanner Kohlhepp in the eighth made it 4-1.
Des Moines pulled to within 4-2 in the eighth, when Carlos David Rodriguez led off with a triple off Batista.
He scored on a John Lehto sacrifice fly off reliever Luis Palomo.
Jake Brentz got the final out of the eighth and was perfect in the ninth for his second save in as many games and third of the season.
Batista worked seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out six and walked two.

Record: 14-5, 1st, 3 GA Springfield
St. Louis scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and rolled on to a 4-2 win over Springfield at Busch Stadium (1997).
Prairie Fighters starting pitcher Jared Kelley walked Bo Bichette to lead off the River Walkers bottom of the first inning, and Carlos Vidal made him pay for it with his fifth homer of the month.
St. Louis, however, was not done as the next batter, Andrew Benintendi drew a walk and Tanner Kohlhepp moved him to second with a single.
Kelley finally got an out when he got JT Schwartz to fly out, but Benintendi did move to third.
That was enough for him to score when Jean Carmona flew out to left.
Bichette hit a solo homer off Kelley in the fifth, making it 4-0.
Springfield did mount something of a comeback with single runs in the sixth and eighth.
But Jake Brentz handled the final 1.2 innings to earn his fourth save.

Walkers news: Team awards for April 2025

Player of the Month: Carlos Vidal: The 29-year-old outfielder made quite an impression after being acquired just before opening day. In 17 games, he batted .335 with five homers and 16 RBIs. He also scored 11 runs while posting an on-base percentage of .423 and a slugging percentage of .633.
Starting pitcher of the month: Adonis Medina: Like Vidal, Medina was acquired in the offseason and he shined in his first month with the River Walkers. In four starts, he went 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA. He worked a total of 26.1 innings, striking out 19 batters while limiting them to a 0.68 WHIP.
Relief pitcher of the month: Edwin Diaz: His first season with the River Walkers was a bit of a disappointment but so far he likes quite ready for 2025. In six games, he posted five save and an 0.00 ERA for the seven innings he pitched. He struck out 11 batters and boasted a 1.00 WHIP.

Walkers news: Pair of roster moves made

The St. Louis River Walkers have made a pair of roster moves.
Infielder Johan Camargo has come off the 10-day disabled list after missing time with back spasms.
His return will send 1B/3B JT Schwartz back to AAA Memphis.
Before his injury, Camargo had batted .308 in five games with the Walkers with a homer and pair of RBIs.
Schwartz also had been impressive in his brief time in the majors, hitting .556 in three games with a homer and an RBI.
Also, St. Louis has sent outfielder Larry Ernesto to AAA Memphis and callled up outfielder Alan Dondero from the Redbirds.
The 24-year-old Ernesto has struggled in the major this season, batting .120 in 12 games with no homers or RBIs.
Dondero has not played well either at Memphis -- sitting at .159 with nine RBIs in 19 games -- but is a better defender.

Walkers news: May 2 -- St. Louis 6, Quad City 4

Record: 16-5, 1st, 5 GA Springfield and Kansas City
St. Louis scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning to overcome a 4-1 deficit and went on to defeat Quad City 6-4 at Busch Stadium (1997).
The Thunder's 4-1 advantage had been built primarily through a pair of home runs -- a solo shot and two-run blast -- by Andrew Bethea off River Walkers starting pitcher Alex Faedo.
An inability to throw strikes on the part of Q-C's pitchers played a big role in the seventh-inning outburst.
The Thunder hit one batter, threw a wild pitch that scored a run and reliever Brenan Hanifee issued a walk to Rhys Hoskins with the bases loaded.
That run made it 4-3. Andrew Benintendi then banged a single off Hanifee which scored two.
Reliever Jake Diekman had started the inning on the mound.
Jean Carmona got to him for a lead-off single and Austin Barnes was hit by a pitch.
Alex Thomas followed with a single to load the bases.
After a strikeout, and with Bo Bichette at the plate, Diekman unleashed a wild pitch scoring Carmona.
Bichette then walked, bringing Hanifee into the game.
Hanifee retired Carlos Vidal but followed with his walk to Hoskins.
St. Louis added an insurance run in the eighth.
Thunder reliever Nick Wood issued two free passes in the inning, including one to Vidal with the bases loaded.
Faedo worked six innings, giving up four runs on six hits.
Tim Hill, Danny Grigg and Edwin Diaz all worked a scoreless inning apiece.
Hill (1-0) earned his first win as a Walker. Diaz notched his sixth save.
