Yeah, I don't know. NOTHING has worked this season. The level of SUCK we talk about is as below. And Mel's far from the only one with that sort of stat line after years and years of more or less steady production.

There is no explanation. My ballpark stats slightly favor offense and have been for years. All teams in my division have neutral parks or parks that favor offense (except for homers). There is no reason Mel should bat one-****ing-ninety.

The Raccoons are currently in the red zone, 2 1/2 games out of a safe spot. At this point I don't know whether to laugh or cry or both.

Rebs are still 4 1/2 ahead in their division. The Accountants are 20 back and have nothing to play out but the string.

It sounds like how 2040 went for my Raccoons. It was our 1st of 2 years in that whale league and we won only 77 games after having averaged 114 up to that point. We did much better the next season in the same league with no changes made on my part.

During that one season, Campanella hit only .194, Keefe had a 5.54 ERA after winning the pitching triple crown the year before and Clarkson had a 6.22 ERA. So it was a year where we had multiple people do poorly combined with much tougher competition.

In other words, I'm willing to bet things will go much better for your Raccoons next season like it did for us (even if you don't make any improvements). But it sucks to have to endure such a season.

Yeah, we might regroup in Diamond though.

There is a pretty good chance that I will only have one playoff team out of my 9. The Nico-Nico Kneecappers have a big lead in their division, and in their league for that matter. St. John's leads their division in bronze but can't pull away, and Steelport is finding out that the only person on their team worth a damn is Cy Young, and he's getting tired of carrying these bums.

At least one, maybe two of my teams in perfect will be relegated. A long losing streak could bring either Brooklyn or Blitzkrieg back into the relegation fight, while Metuchen (pack-only) has been lying face down, dead in the water all week with their rubbish pitching and an inability to sell players (diamond packs have killed my ability to sell).

What a rotten week.

Of my teams, only the South Side Lumber Co, with a full season of 100 Big Ed, 99 Aches and Pains and 97 Shoeless Joe, are a mathematical certainty to make the playoffs. And actually, it's the newest acquistion, Cisco Carlos, that has been the team MVP with his 16-4 record (OK, Big Ed's 7.8 WAR through Sept. 4 isn't bad, either).

The Team that Shall Not Be Named is also doing well, with a 98.4% chance of the playoffs. After that, it's the Redlegs (58.1% and rejuvenated in Diamond), Tribe and Monarchs (both 56%) that have the best chances of October baseball in, well, actual October.

The Nashville Game Theories (44.2%) and Thetford Mines Mineurs (39.9%) have reasonable chances but will need some breaks to go their way. Are we seeing the point where the Mineurs have passed the Froggies? Maybe, as the Aquasox only have a 3.7% chance of making the playoffs and, frankly, have had to hustle the past two months to even get to that point.

Just went up against a decent team in the P406 that still has Blake Treinen as a Closer? Negative WAR and ERA 6+ for years. Team must be abandoned?

The Raccoons are definitely liking this league. There's only 1 player on the team that's having an off-year (Cy Blanton) and he's got an unusually high BABIP so he's probably just been unlucky. Everyone else is doing good or great. I don't remember this ever happening before.

Also, we're on target for a long time goal now of finishing with the best record. Yeah, it's a weak league overall, but it would still be nice to have happen. We're on pace for 121 W and have a 3 game lead on the 2nd best team in the league. Our RDiff is +402 which is 86 more than 2nd place.

Raccoons have rallied off a few wins and are now OUT of the red zone, by half a game.

Big update here since I haven't posted much through the week due to traveling for work.

Topeka Defenders: They appear to be going to their first ever playoff appearance in Perfect Leagues. Leave OL group, nearly finish my rebuild selling off a number of pieces, and still might make the playoffs. The big additions this week include a lengthy list. I had been working on multiple collections at a time (not advised...). Finally completed nearly all of them. I completed the CWS Collection so I've added Walsh and Appling. Walsh slots into the #1 starter. Appling goes to 3b to be my long-term 3b, although I may give him a shot at 2b. I also finally finished Hit Parade for the 90 Ichiro so now I have a new RF who will likely be my long-time RF (or maybe CF?). The non-collection addition includes adding a 93 Buck Ewing for 9k under L7 and a Garry Maddox for 5k under L7. I also added 96 Rigney to the bullpen as the long-man since he's locked as part of the CWS Collection, I figured I might as well give him a shot. Also, in a diamond pack from a collection, I added 96 Gossage so he's getting a trial run in the bullpen too.

Missouri Legends: First full season since completing the Royals Collection. 96 Zack Grienke who was locked as part of the collection has a 2.04 ERA with 199 IP. 96 Bret Saberhagen isn't too far behind him with a 2.95 ERA in 192 IP. That one-two punch has led us to first place in the division in the OL Gold Group. Offensively, not much to speak about other than 78 Hal McRae is having an off-year as DH. Was worth 4.6 WAR last year, this year worth -0.1. Guess he decided to take a year off.

Kansas Rangers: The Rangers missed out on the OL group unfortunately, but that isn't stopping them. 100 Bob Gibson has an impressive 1.46 ERA in 209 IP. 96 Mark Prior isn't far behind him with a 1.98 ERA in 204 IP. Similar to the Legends, the one-two punch for starters is carrying us to first place in the division. However, they are getting substantial offensive production from 99 Duke Snider and 87 Ray Lankford.

The Doubledays are in an odd situation. With a 22 team league and only 2 divisions, I might have a more favorable opponent in the opening round by holding 2nd place rather than 1st. The other division winner has a losing record while the team that finishes 3rd in my division is a stronger opponent.

Cy Young tosses a Maddux to earn the 1 millionth PP for the team. After a slow start, 7-5 3+ ERA, the card has been lights out: 20-5 with conference leading ERA. Earning the 6th pitching triple crown for this card is a possibility, although his K competition has 124 stuff rating making it 50-50 at best.

The Frogs are hurtling down the stretch into the final days of the regular season. Having sewn up the AC East division weeks earlier (getting the bitter taste of no playoffs out of their mouths from the year before), the team is 103-57 (+261) and poised to be the #3 seed in the AC playoffs. The Frogs have had worse pythag luck than the #2 seed Asgard Warhammers (108-52, +234), so the Frogs will play the role of visiting team in the ALDS.

And it should be a nip and tuck series with both teams quite evenly matched from a W/L standpoint, a pythag standpoint, a roster quality standpoint, and a team history standpoint--the Frogs are 2637-1900 (.581) all-time and the Warhammers are 2603-1770 (.595) all-time. Asgard has ballpark factors slightly more favorable for LHB, but otherwise elevated for contact and depressed for power plays right into both teams' wheelhouses.

Asgard leads the regular season series 4-1 with 2 games yet to be played. They pulled off a 3-game sweep at their place in early April, but with no games decided by more than 3 runs. More recently, Asgard snapped a 14-game winning streak the Frogs had cooking with an 11-7 extra inning win that saw their Chipper Jones knock in 5 runs and my Chipper Jones ground into a double play to end the 9th inning. The Frogs then turned around and bludgeoned Asgard 19-5 in the next game.

I noticed that Asgard has been pretty aggressive about making upgrades in season, with 99 Willie Mays, 98 Cal Ripken, and 99 Tim Keefe having been added recently, possibly via diamond packs. The Frogs haven't done much on that front other than pulling gold Hugh Duffy from a pack and giving him an audition as a platoon bat in LF (.294/.350/.487 in 160 AB).

P413: Final Standings

Huntley kept it rolling, building on its 22-4 August with a 22-5 September and 3-0 October, a 47-9 run that propelled the Red Raiders to their best record ever (125-37) and the #1 seed in the playoffs. The Kingston Rockers stumbled (relatively) in September and October to an 18-12 finish, 122 wins, and the #2 seed.

Of course, Huntley's "reward" for taking the top spot is to face the winner of the Wild Card game, which pits the 118-44 Aliquippa Quips (who actually lead the league with a +472 run differential) against the Dodge City Prairie Dogs (who went a very respectable 8-11 vs Huntley during the regular season). Kingston, meanwhile, will face the 85-77 Gustavus Foxes. So, despite the success of the regular season, it could be a very short stay in the 2046 playoffs for the Red Raiders.

The biggest offensive standout for the Red Raiders this year was Arky Vaughan, who finished second in the AC in BA (.319), third in OBP (.398), fourth in SLG (.520), fifth in total bases (284), third in OPS (.919), second in OPS+ (151), sixth in WPA (3.46), third in wOBA (.404), and second in WAR (6.9). In addition, Christian Yelich lead the league in home runs by a wide margin (38, 8 more than any other AC hitter).

On the pitching side, Ed Walsh, as he usually does, lead the staff (and finished fourth in the AC) with 7.7 WAR, but the real story was Walter Johnson, who lead all of P413 with the only ERA below 2.00 (1.93) and finished second in rWAR (9.9).

The NC saw 3 teams reach 100 wins, lead by the St George Slammers with 110.

Good luck to everyone in the P413 playoffs!

After a dumpster fire of a week for most of my teams, I will have 3 in the postseason.

Nico-Nico Kneecappers (Silver) won 109 games and ran away with the best record in the league, so naturally they are probably losing in 5 games in the divisional round.

St. John's Steelheads (Bronze, Pack Only) won their division at 95-67 but will be the #3 seed in the playoffs.

Steelport Saints (Diamond, OL) won 87 games and earned a wildcard. However, they will not have Cy Young until the divisional round, which they very well may not make as they will have to send Curt Simmons in the wildcard game to try and get there.

On the wrong side of the fence, the pack-only Metuchen Mariners crash out of perfect thanks to a rotten pitching staff and an inability to sell players to take a few swings at improving their pitchers.

The season didn't go well for the Raccoons towards the end endangering our quest to finish with the best record for the 1st time ever. We went 7-10 with 1 game to go and the team with the 2nd best record finally caught up to us. We lost a chance for the best record to a whale a few seasons back on the last day of the season and I didn't want that to happen again. So I decided to start Schilling in a "meaningless" game to try to ensure at least a tie.

With respect to the playoffs, that was not a particularly good decision. We won't have our best pitcher at the start and winning would possibly mean playing the WC team which will be a stronger team than the division winner we would have played had we lost the last game.

So how did it work out? Schilling pitched very well and we won 4-1 while the #2 team in the league (and conference) lost in the bottom of the 11th on a Lou Gehrig 2-R HR. So we finally finished on top and with the best RDiff (102 more than 2nd best)!

As to the playoffs... Our whole staff is strong enough to get us through even if we couldn't use Schilling at all so I'm not too worried. But I am worried about how poorly we did there at the end.

Paragon City Heroes go into the Wildcard game for the 2nd straight year, but have improved their record to 95-67, the two offseason pitching acquisitions Lefty Gomez (18-6 3.03) and Kevin Appier (15-7 3.96) more than making up for Maddux having a down year. Foxx (23 HR 97 RBI) Colavito (27HR 82 RBI) and Santo (25 HR 80 RBI) provided the power, Cool Papa Bell (29 steals despite having only 88 plate appearances) provided speed off the bench. We go up against the lefty Johan Santana in the WC and have to feel good about our chances as we are at home which favours righty hitters and we have a 31-12 record vs lefties on the season, and we are playing a team we were 5-1 against in the regular season (obviously setting ourselves up for a crushing defeat) The ''prize'' for the WC winner is to face the 12 time champion Everett Aqua Sox who won our division by 38 games with a 133-28 record

Bad News Bulldogs 71-91 was good enough to see them finish above 6 other teams so they get another season to suffer in Perfect league

Neuman Furshlugginers stumbled to a division winning 87-75 record and I'm hoping we get beaten in the first round, this team is nowhere near capable of surviving in perfect. Pete Hill won the batting title with a .330 average. Gregg Jefferies had his usual 20/20 season but i can safely say his MVP streak will end at 4 as he didn't put up any big numbers. Wilbur Wood had 20 wins but was 2nd behind Waite Hoytes 23, Smokey Joe Williams led the league with 50 saves

Three playoff teams in total this week as both my PT 19 teams and the Rebs won their division by a grand total of seven games, four of those chipped in by these Rebs here. 89-73 in the end despite fairly awful defense and pitching.

Accountants came 74-88, 22 games off the beat, half as much off a wild card in their first season in Perfect. I expected them to be worse, honestly. The offense was average, the pitching badly needs upgrades…

And finally the Critters. Last year they were first-time postseason participants after almost two decades of futility. This year futility reached a new climax with a 59-103 campaign (boy, and I thought the dynasty Coons sucked…) and WHO KNOWS whether they will be relegated…? They show up as relegated here, but I have no idea whether there is an actual tie-breaker involved or not...

Oh well, I choose to be heartbroken and will retreat into the nearest dumpster for sulking!

Missed my first Diamond playoffs because my team went 2-9 in the last eleven games. Just one more win would've been enough

Good luck in the playoffs everybody.

Good luck to you over in the AC. I was fortunate to sneak by with the 1 seed over in the NC (not sure what the tiebreaker is, but finished with the same record as Jersey). It means I face off against the 82-80 St Peters Warbirds instead of the 98-64 Virginia Farmers (who also happened to be the only team I had a losing record against this season).

Big highlight from the season was Walter Johnson picking up the pitching triple crown, with a 25-3 record, 218 Ks and a 1.88 ERA.

It should be a good series between you and Jersey to get to the World Series. You are the only team Jersey could not beat (7-11). It is odd that both of you have better road records?

Perfect Walter Johnson is definitely one of the better pitchers in PT!

The Colonels had an excellent regular season:
- best record with 125 wins
- best rdiff at +465
- most pitching wins & ERA crown by Cy Young (29-5, 2.10)
- most HRs by 100 Ruth (33 HR, 109 RBI, .286/.419/.524)
- perfect game by 100 Pedro
- a groundball triple play
- 3,000th career win
- 30,000 points so far with playoffs to go

The conference playoffs will be tough but we played well in September/October (25-3) so I am looking forward to a good, long day.

Good luck to everyone still playing today!
