P411: It Be Pirates Versus Tempest!

As they did all season, the Pine Tar Pirates waited patiently by the dock for the Singapore-Huntley silliness to play itself out, then calmly set sail to the Perfect League finals. They defeated Singapore 4-1 in the Sub-League Series (scores: 7-4, 3-1, 3-1, 2-4, 2-1). Pirates...share with me the secrets of your bounty...

And in the NC, it was indeed the Seattle Tempest versus the Brooklyn Blasters, who each swept their Division Series. Seattle, like Pine Tar, quickly dispatched the Blasters 4-1 (scores: 4-3, 4-3, 2-1, 2-4, 4-1).

So, P411 comes down to the teams that led their conferences in run differential: Pine Tar (123-39, +474), going for Perfect League championship no. 7, versus Seattle (119-43, +441), going for Perfect League championship no. 5. Classic matchup between Pirates and a Tempest! It's like it was fated.

The warbirds are only carrying 10 pitchers and it might be coming back to haunt them. A quick 'next day' turn around after a gruelling 5 game series win against the heavily favourited Fresno Losers. Add a 11 run loss in game 1 and a 16 inning game 3 has everyone in the bullpen tired. The Rampage are carrying 12 pitchers and are tired as well.

Game 5
SA - Roger Clemens 18-8 3.62 vs
CR - Cy Young 23-8 2.43

The Warbirds have a good history of beating perfect Cy Young in recent Playoffs.

Game 6
SA - J. Smoltz 16-10 3.01
CR - P. Martinez 18-9 3.42

Smoltz has been lights out down the stretch.1.22 ERA over 8 starts
Game 5 - 11inning 1-0 loss
Game 6 - 8-3 win

Game 7
SA - Randy Johnson - No starts (bullpen demotion for Pedro, L Grove tired)
CR - Roger Clemens - 18-10 3.74

CR's lefty heavy lineup are going to get one of the best lefty starters of all time for Game 7. Closer and Stopper are both tired.

4-1 Loss in the final. 5 hits and 2 BB for the 3 RH in the lineup...i might have over thought this a bit.
When it's all said in done the Warbirds just didn't have enough offence this season. Lowest Run total in 9 years.

Out of my 5 playoff teams this week...three remain.

- Brooklyn Dynasty (D400) await their diamond level series opponent after seeing off the Hiram College Terriers 4 games to 2. "The Real Deal" Jeff McNeil (All-Star) is hitting .436 this postseason, going a whopping 17 for 39. Cooling him off will be critical to denying the Dynasty their 3rd league title.

- Steelport Saints (G328) swept their fellow OL opposition in the LCS, and will now hope that high-end talent in Cy Young & Sandy Koufax can win them a third league championship.

- Metuchen Mariners (D404, Pack Only) won an offense-heavy game 7 12-10 and with a pitching staff beleaguered with fatigue and general ineptitude, will go for their first championship of any kind. They've had two bites at the cherry in the lower levels, but failed to get it done both times.

Welp, Medici's Breakers didn't make it, but eight 100 win teams did.

Cheaters make it to WS to face RealMadrid. This is the 11th WS PL trip for the LyinCheatin Senators, 7-3 in 10 prior trips; will be pretty tough to pull this one off. RealMadrid starts Cy Young with no pitch count, but the other 3 starters are all lefties with a pitch count of 49. Bullpen picks up from there with nearly all righties. Looks like this has been his strategy all season.

Senators are heavy platooners so this should be a fun one!

Swept in the world series by the Baby Sharks, running the all lefty starting rotation with a 44 pitch count followed by killer RHP righties in relief. Another regular season of .800+ winning percentage (this time in a super boring 20 team league) but without adding another trophy. Did pick up a second consecutive MVP for Josh Gibson and a first time Cy Young Award for Lefty Grove.

P411: In the End, the Tempest Always Wins...

The Seattle Tempest defeated the Pine Tar Pirates, 4-2, to win the P411 Perfect League championship. Congrats to manager TempestSC!

Huntley won 3 Platinum Stick awards: Luke Appling at SS, Mickey Mantle at LF, and Lou Gehrig at DH.

Steelport wins their 3rd championship by beating the Buffalo Short Hops 4 games to 1. Roberto Clemente was the series MVP, hitting .474 with 4 HR and 7 RBI.

Brooklyn wins their 3rd championship in 5 games in the diamond level series.

Metuchen are still championship-less after losing their diamond level series in 6.

Coda: Because baseball, like life, has a wicked sense of humor...

Even as the PT 2.0 122-win Huntley Red Raiders battled valiantly but went down to defeat yet again at the hands of the Singapore Sluggers, the PT 1.0 85-win Huntley Red Raiders managed to go from stumbling ass-backwards into the playoffs as the second Wild Card team by finishing on a 22-36 "run" that featured 12 straight home losses, including the last 6 games of the season...to winning the whole damn thing.

Woot! 1st Perfect League Title for the Hawaii Volcanoes! We went in as a wildcard, made it to the finals against the Saint Paul Fighting Saints, and after starting the series up 3-0, we held out for a 4-2 series win. I feel redeemed!

No promotions. No demotions. Everyone will stay in the same spot as this season.
