Best way to create rosters from real players

Hi,

I'm trying to import my "real life" fantasy league into OOTP so I can sim the year and see what happens. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to do this? My first try:

1. Created a new quick start game
2. Scheduled a fantasy draft, clearing all 30 teams of their rosters
3. Restructured the league to match a fantasy league: 1 league, 1 division, 12 teams.

The issue is that drafting is pretty tedious. There's no quick way to find a specific player (as far as I know) and this seems less than optimal.

I noticed that it's possible to import a draft result. Could that be a way to do it? I'd still need to find player IDs for everybody but that's not too bad.

The final result would be:

* 1 league, no sub league, 1 division, 12 teams
* No free agents; no players available outside of the rosters

Another thing I tried doing was create a quick start game and export the rosters to a text file. I then wanted to reorganize the file but each player line has way too much information, including the Team's name and so on. Is all of that necessary? I feel like "playerID, teamID" should be enough?

Instead of using the draft, you can set yourself up in Commish mode and then just assign the players to the teams you want them on through the edit screen. The teams drop down box will be on the left side of the edit screen towards the bottom of the first box of information.

Ah, that's another way to do this! I can just create a new division with my fantasy teams, move the players to each team using the edit page then delete all the MLB teams.

I wish there was a fast way to find players though, "Search by Name" or something. I guess if I keep them on their original team first I can just go through the teams' rosters 1 at a time and move players out team by team.

At the top, in between your record and upcoming schedule, there is a search icon. Put a name in and press enter.

When you export the rosters make a backup copy of it.
Now all you need to do to move players to other teams is to simply change the team ID for that player. Once your done changing the players team id, simply save and reimport the roster.txt file and the player's with be magically moved to the team you assigned them to.
Team names are not imported....ootp only uses the team id so there's no need to move any players around.

When you open the exported roster.txt file in a spreadsheet, the Team ID is the 3rd column in the team/players section. Change that id to the new team id. No need to move anything else.

If you want to move a player to the free agent pool, just change his team id to 0 (zero).
If you want to delete a player, change the 0 in the second column to a 1.

This has always worked like a charm for me and is way easier to do than to do it manually in game.
NOTE: any row in the roster.txt file starting with // does not import. that row is ignored.
