New to OOTP
Hey guys, I'm new to the whole OOTP game. I found it online a couple weeks ago and haven't bought anything yet but have researched it to see if it is something that I really want to invest money into. Being a recent college graduate if I'm going to invest in something I want to really like it. With that being said I wanted to ask the opinions of some of you veterans. Having never played the game I am planning on getting OOTP '14 in the next couple weeks for the April release. But, would you recommend going ahead and getting OOTP '13 for the discounted price to kind of get the grasp of the game or just wait until April to get the new one. Thanks in advance for your opinions and I look forward to being a part of the OOTP family.

I recommend downloading the Demo of 13 and have a look around in the game. OOTP is an amazing baseball simulation. You can play modern MLB, historic, or create fictional leagues. There is too much for me to cover here, but for sure have a run through the demo.
Out of the Park Baseball: Downloads Near the bottom of that page is the download link. Also, there is a "New to Game" forum where you can ask questions. The vast majority of OOTP Players here will be more than glad to help you out. OOTP 13 - New to the game? - OOTP Developments Forums Cheers |

It will be the best investment you can make in a game, no matter which version you decide. All of the additions that enhance the game are free. You'll find links to ballparks, quick starts for leagues, uniforms, logos and on and on.
But most importantly, you'll have the database of every single player who has ever been in the major leagues -- allowing you to recreate anything you want historically. One of the neatest features of OOTP 13 in my opinion was the random debut feature where you could play with all the MLB rules, teams, etc. but allow the game to decide what player in history would come in to be drafted in your year of play. So a young, rookie Roger Clemens, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Charlie Root, Pete Rose or Derek Jeter could all be among the draft picks. You're going to love it. Don't be intimidated by the depth and complexity of the game, either. You'll learn how to simplify things so you can get the hang of it at the start. For example, I would suggest turning off financials, scouting, coaches, injuries, Rule 5 and all of the additional rules just to play a simple game and get the hang of it. When you play with everything turned on, you'll learn exactly how wonderfully challenging it is to try to run a franchise.
