Vegas Pink Knights - An Expansion Story
We headed into the 2017 expansion knowing that we couldn't get top end talent, so our identity was going to be a strong/physical team that could keep the game close with strong defense and physical play. Free agency came around and we got some big names, Kovalchuk (1 year, 7.4 mil), Thornton (1 year, 5.4 mil), Zajac (1 year, 4.7) and Tatar (1 year, 3.9 mil). We then made some key trades to get competitive right off the bat. IN: RD Sami Vatanen G Frederick Andersen LD Olli Juolevi RD Brandon Montour OUT: Connauton, Boychuk, Howden, Enroth, Hickey, Braun, Stoner, Latta, Reimer 2nd rd pick, 3rd rd pick, 4th rd pick, (2) 5th rd picks, (2) 6th rd picks, (2) 7th rd picks The Depth Chart Last edited by pucku33; 11-27-2016 at 12:46 AM. |

Preseason and Strategies
I plan on updating this every in-game month and re-evaluating/changing lines as needed each month, barring injuries. I spent WAY too much time going over strategies (seriously, at least 3 hours) to see which would fit the team the most, and ended up settling with the following: Ultraconservative offense - I went with this one because we basically have one scoring line, and power forwards/grinders throughout the rest of the lineup. Our goal is to play physical and keep the game close. Neutral Zone Trap - With the acquisitions of offensive defenders, Montour and Vatanen, I figured this would be the best for transition and counterattacking. Preseason Record: 2-5, both wins were by 1 goal, while the losses were blowouts. Expectations: 12th in Western Conference - but among the most physical Keys to winning: Top line has to be among the league's best top lines Penalty killing will have to be top 10 Andersen will need to have a career year in net. Congrats to Frederik Andersen for goalie of the month! He went 5-5, with a 2.57 GAA, .926% and 3 shutouts! 3-win month, key injuries occur

We struggled this week as Andersen crashed back down to earth, but we got to face the other expansion team, Seattle Krakens! November was good to us! However it started poorly as we lost 3 in a row to start the month. December
21-24-1 (7th in Div)
December started off well, as we got points in 4 of the first 5 games and then Andersen earned two shutouts later in the month, however it was a disappointing month overall. Buy or Sell?!? - January
26-29-1 (7th in Div)
We rolled off a 4-game win streak to start the month... then immediately crashed with a 5-game losing streak, 3 of which were to non-playoff teams. End of Season Two (2018-2019)

We don't suck!
I went into this season much differently. I created a more offensive roster to focus on outscoring high-risk games, instead of trying to win 1-0, 2-1 games. We might still stink this season, but we are going to be aggressive and score some goals!
Injuries to start the season: None! Free Agent Signing: Nail Yakupov Lineup: 9-9-1(6th in Div) So far so good! It seems like we finally have a legit top line, albeit not a great one. Depth seems to be okay, and as long as the defense can hold up, I think we just might have a chance to sneak into the playoffs! Oddly enough, one of our prospects, Jones, could not land a team, so we signed him just to send him back to the OHL. Injures: None Team Stats: 9th in GF (61) 31st in GA (67) 27th in S/G (26.29) 31st in SA/G (35.79) 5th in PP (22.6) 26th in PK (80.6) Lineup: Donskoi (1-14)/Lakatos (12-5)/Pulkkinen (7-9) Yakupov (2-3)/Lohin (3-8)/Shenfeld (3-7) McGinn (3-1)/Kovac (2-4)/Cogliano (6-0) Martinook (1-10)/Cizikas (2-0)/Filatov (1-3) Antipin (4-13)/Vatanen (5-6) Juolevi (0-8)/Myers (3-8) Russell (2-2)/Chudinov (2-4) Prospects: LW Parent (18-19 in 18gp QMJHL) G Jones (0gp OHL) LW Krebs (4-10 in 15gp WHL) C Hughes (6-10 in 13gp OHL) C Wise (8-19 in 13gp QMJHL) RW Bitszadze (8-18 in 29gp VHL) C Keller (3-3 in 4gp NCAA) LD Bock (0-4 in 3gp DNL)

November - Year 3
13-15-3(6th in Div)
We crashed a bit this month, with shutout losses to divisional opponents, Edmonton and Anaheim: as well as being shutout by Minnesota. Hopefully December will be a better showing as we start the month off with 4 of 5 at home. Our top line had a struggling month, but 2C Ryan Lohin picked up his game.Viktor Antipin leads the team in scoring and ranks 3rd in NHL d-man scoring, trailing leader Ekblad by 7. Injures: None Team Stats: 13th in GF (91) 32nd in GA (106) 25th in S/G (28.00) 28th in SA/G (34.68) 15th in PP (16.7) 24th in PK (81.6) Lineup: Donskoi (3-15)/Lakatos (12-9)/Pulkkinen (9-9) Yakupov (4-9)/Lohin (7-13)/Shenfeld (4-9) McGinn (4-5)/Kovac (5-8)/Cogliano (7-1) Martinook (3-11)/Cizikas (2-1)/Filatov (2-3) Antipin (5-23)/Vatanen (6-11) Juolevi (1-12)/Myers (4-10) Russell (7-2)/Chudinov (4-8) Prospects: LW Parent (35-34 in 29gp QMJHL) G Jones (5-3 2.98 .898 8gp OHL) LW Krebs (12-25 in 28gp WHL) C Hughes (12-21 in 25gp OHL) C Wise (22-31 in 24gp QMJHL) RW Bitszadze (16-23 in 42gp VHL) C Keller (6-8 in 9gp NCAA) LD Bock (1-9 in 8gp DNL)

December
16-24-5(8th in Div)
We crashed even harder this month! We made a few panic moves: a trade, strategy change and mixing up the lines. Hopefully the month drastically improves, but if not, another mini-sell might be in order. Cogliano, Russell, Talbot, Mason would be the only one's that would be available as we continue with the core. TRADE: Chudinov + McGinn to Canucks for Hagelin + Stecher Injures: None Team Stats: 24th in GF (115) 31st in GA (158) 28th in S/G (27.49) 31st in SA/G (35.40) 28th in PP (14.1) 26th in PK (81.5) Lineup: Donskoi (3-19)/Lohin (9-16)/Yakupov (7-11) Martinook (3-12)/Lakatos (14-14)/Shenfeld (4-13) Hagelin (2-2)/Kovac (6-9)/Cogliano (7-3) Spaling (3-11)/Cizikas (5-3)/Pulkkinen (12-10) Antipin (6-22)/Vatanen (9-13) Juolevi (1-14)/Myers (5-11) Nutivaara (0-4)/Stecher (0-2) Mason (12-17 3.15 .907) Talbot (4-7 3.68 .905) Prospects: LW Parent (42-39) in 38gp QMJHL) LW Krebs (23-33 in 39gp WHL) C Hughes (19-31 in 34gp OHL) C Keller (8-13 in 14gp NCAA) C Wise (27-41 in 35gp QMJHL) RW Bitszadze (20-30 in 48gp VHL) G Jones (6-5 2.73 .908 11gp OHL) LD Bock (1-11 in 12gp DNL)

Viktor Antipin - All-Star Snub?!?
21-28-7(7th in Div)
We had a great end of the month, with a 7-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2). Defenseman Viktor Antipin is 4th in D-scoring in the West, despite missing 5 games due to injury. However, he was not selected to the all-star team. As a franchise, we still have never sent a single person to the All-Star Game. We also called up Gabriel Carlsson, and after 8-games, he has the best Game Rating on the entire team (66)! Injures: None Team Stats: 20th in GF (148) 31st in GA (187) 26th in S/G (27.88) 31st in SA/G (35.68) 20th in PP (16.1) 27th in PK (80.1) Lineup: Donskoi (4-27)/Kovac (10-11)/Yakupov (11-16) Lakoatos (16-18)/Lohin (10-21)/Shenfeld (6-15) Hagelin (3-4)/Spaling (4-0)/Cogliano (10-5) Filatov (4-7)/Cizikas (6-7)/Pulkkinen (15-13) Antipin (9-25)/Vatanen (10-17) Juolevi (2-18)/Myers (6-14) Russell (9-3)/Carlsson (0-0) Mason (16-20 3.04 .911) Talbot (5-8 3.81 .901) Prospects: LW Parent (49-43) in 48gp QMJHL) LW Krebs (32-43 in 50gp WHL) C Hughes (30-43 in 47gp OHL) C Keller (8-13 in 14gp NCAA) C Wise (33-51 in 46gp QMJHL) RW Bitszadze (20-30 in 48gp VHL) G Jones (8-10 3.39 .890 18gp OHL) C Kristian Vesalainen (16-27 in 33gp ECHL) On the block: Cam Talbot Kris Russell Jordan Martinook (unhappy) Teemu Pulkkinen (unhappy) Nikita Filatov (unhappy)
