NONE of these guys are legit HoF candidates.
Scott Rolen should be a HoF. Outstanding bat with elite defence. Over the past 50 years the only 3B who have been better are A-Rod (If you consider him a 3B), Schmidt, Boggs, Chipper Jones, Brett, Beltre, and Miggy. Considering A-Rod and Miggy didn't play 3B for more than half their career, you can pretty safely call Rolen one of the 5 or 6 best 3B in the past 50 years.

If you go back a little further you have Brooks Robinson, but that's it.

His 7 best WAR seasons are

2009 - catcher
2010 - catcher
2006 - catcher
2013 - catcher
2008 - catcher
2012 - catcher
2007 - catcher

Each of these seasons, he spent more time at catcher than appearing in games he didn't catch. 2012 and 2013 he just missed catching half his teams total games, the other years he did at least that.

He's a catcher for career purposes.

We only care about what happens in his Age 35 season.

Or where they place on some random Schmo's unsourced '20 most overrated MLB players' list apparently.

I do find it funny though that you post an article that calls him an all-time-great catcher. Looks like you were on the other side the whole time!

Defense aside, Mauer never measured up as more than an above-average player at first base. The question then becomes should he be judged by what he was, an all-time great catcher, and what he should have continued to be before concussions derailed his career, or should he be judged on becoming a first baseman who rarely gave his team an advantage at the plate.

Where am I wrong there?

What I still want to know is when Harrison Mantle is good enough to make the Hall, alongside Joe “I was a catcher dang it “ Mauer

****ing Mauer won't have another season. He's done like dinner. Can't even play first base well enough to keep a job, especially given his .388 SLG.

Mauer is a talented good major league player. He is no where close to Bench, Berra, Munson, Fisk, Piazza, ---- when looking at All Star appearances you must remember every team has to have some one ..... He was never the top player on Twins ... Carew, Hunter, Oliva, Kirby, etc...

So NO it would need to be a very weak class or the ESPN talking heads must really do promoting.

He was never the top player on the Twins? He won an MVP. How many of those did Kirby Puckett have?

I think Mauer had a fantastic peak but i would have to say no. He didn't last long enough and his move to 1B/DH didn't help. If Simmons didn't get in,i don't think he will.
