BILLINGS - Eden Blancowas in
a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Toledo to a 7-1 win over Billings by homering three times. His 1st blast, a solo homerun off Michael Brunell in the 2nd inning, landed an estimated 403 feet from home plate. A 418 feet drive to left field marked his 2nd bomb, a two-run homerun off Michael Brunell in the 3rd inning. In the 9th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Albert Durazo. Eden stroked 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three times with 5 RBI. In 24 career at bats, he has hit 3 homeruns and collected 5 RBI. On 4/10/2001, Wayne Ahmed was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game. Blancowas = Blanco was 418 feet drive = 418 foot drive |

Here's a few from scouting reports -
"Don't count on any fielding awards at left fielder" (or center fielder etc) "He is one of premiere baserunners in the league" (strictly speaking, "premiere" is the French version of "premier", and while it can be used as an adjective in this manner, "premiere" is more commonly used in English as a verb to describe the first appearance, first performance etc) "He is destined to be a career minor leaguers at best" (should be minor "leaguer" - singular)

JML, actually the "the" was there, my typo on that one. I still disagree with the use of "premiere" instead of "premier", but as you say, it might be standard usage in American "english".

Sorry, I don't mean to be a snooty English major here, but I definitely think "premier" is better than "premiere," as well as being far more standard in American English.
Also, "When David Eckstein comes out of the bullpen, get ready for a wild rollercoaster ride." Roller coaster is two words.

Also, this has been one of my pet peeves for a while now:
"Eckstein chases it, but it's foul by ten feet." Every game, someone catches a ball that's foul by ten feet. It should be "Eckstein chases it, but it's out of play by ten feet." or, IMO better still: "Eckstein gives chase, but it goes out of play." Most announcers don't know ten feet from three miles.

The game is terrific ! Let me say that to begin. It is much better than=20
last year's version, which was great in itself. But can I offer a minor=20 complaint [ annoyance ] which I wish you would address in an update. I=20 mentioned this last year as well. In the PBP text, when the following=20 text, or something like it, is displayed - " The Tigers IS 3-0 in their=20 diviision, the Yankees IS 4-2., " could you please correct the grammar ? The right way to say that is " the Tigers ARE 3-0 in their division, the Yankees ARE 4-2. " This has slipped by your proof reader for several=20 editions of the game. Its a little thing, I know. But would you please=20 try to correct it in this edition ? I'm no perfectionist but this needs=20 fixing. Thanks, Tom Monnat |

"Jason Grayson isn't hitting the ball at all at AA ! He has an AVG of .243, so a demotion is the right choice. He shouldn't be emberassed any more. " The third-to-last word should be spelled "embarrassed" |
