Data Issues: Historical

Please post any data issues related to historical mode (including the historical data for currently active players) in this thread. Note that posts related to the current NHL go in the North American thread instead.

Lots o' Issues

I have had trouble both accessing and creating leagues. When I try to create an historical league, it tells me often that it cannot create a folder. When I try to load a league, I get issues with it not being listed under saved leagues. Very frustrating....

2006-2007 Historical League Player Salaries/Skill Levels

Not sure if this is something in the database, or if options I chose in starting the league led to this.
I started a 1.03 historical league for 2006-2007 as the Carolina Hurricanes, selecting all of the radio boxes in league setup.

At the start of the game, Chad LaRose is signed to a 5 year, $4,260,000 contract which is completely non-historical, or even close relative to the salary cap. Andrew Ladd is signed to a 3 year, $5,370,000 contract, Craig Adams is signed to a 5 year, $3,440,000 contract.

The team is hopelessly over the cap (by 10 million), if actual lineups from that year are attempted.

I tried a 2005-2006 historical game, which was much worse, with minimum salaried 4th liners signed for 4-5 years at 3 million or more each (Ryan Bayda, Trevor Letkowski among others) with the team being more than 30 million over the cap!!

I started wondering if player salaries are recomputed against the 2012-2013 salary cap when starting historical leagues, based on the assigned player skill levels. Is this the case?

Yes. The modern financial model is used for all historical seasons.

Historical playoffs in the NHL are incorrect for 1974-75 through 1978-79.

This may be tricky to program. But here's how it worked.

In 74/75, 75/76 and 76/77

The top 3 teams in each division made the playoffs. The division winners were given byes into the 2nd round (quarterfinals). The remaining 8 teams were seeded by points and played a best of 3 series (preliminary round). The teams (the four preliminary round winners and four division champs) were again seeded by points and played a best of 7 series.

In 77/78 and 78/79
The top 2 teams in each division and the next two highest point teams in the conference made the playoffs (so that if a fourth place team in a division had more points than a 3rd place team in another - they would make the playoff). The division winners still got a bye into the second round.

Enjoying the game so far.

Winnipeg Jets are playing out of Jobing.COM Arena instead of Winnipeg Arena from 1979-95. Is there any way for updates to correct this?

A historical mode game started in 1981 had Wayne Gretzky's stats from '77-78 and '78-79 as Indianapolis (NHL) instead of (WHA).

A historical mode game started in 1947 had a schedule malfunction in 1977-78. Teams did not complete the schedule, regular season games stretched through the spring and by July 1 the playoffs had not started yet. The season was reset July 1 for the following season and forevermore, there was no Cup winner in 1978.

Add to that, Montreal doesn't play at the Bell Centre in 1986

NHL schedule for 78-79 season is incorrect.

Schedule consists totally of Smythe Division teams playing Patrick Division teams and Adams Division teams playing Norris Division teams.

The reg. season schedule also goes past June 30, 1979 - which means no playoffs and no Stanley Cup championship.

Joe Watson is missing from Flyers Roster

It appears that Joe Watson is missing from the 1970s Philadelphia Flyers rosters (I haven't gone earlier than 1970 yet). Only his younger brother, Jimmy Watson is shown.

In the 1973 roster, rookie Jimmy is shown as alternate captain; Joe in fact wore the "A".

Joe Watson's stats: Joe Watson Philadelphia Flyers - 2013-2014 Stats - Philadelphia Flyers - Team

Thank you.

Expansion draft

While playing from the 1992 season, we got to the expansion draft at the end of the season, the two expansion teams went on to draft 3 starting goalies each - big names. Then went on to draft defensemen only consecutively - each drafting something like 8-9 defensemen - then the draft ended. No more selections and neither team drafted a forward. The season started with them sending one of their big 3 goalies down to the minors (no trades) and a few d-men and filling their roster with minor leagues and low level free agents. That's a joke. Hope that gets fixed.

Not quite sure if this is a data issue, but since the new 1.6.8. patch the scoring levels in the Historical mode have come down a lot.

For example in my current game (started in 1972/73, currently in 1983/84) only TWICE has the leading scorer in NHL scored more than 100 points. Goalscoring leaders during the same period have scored around 55-65 goals per season.

I remember scoring levels being more realistic in the previous versions...

1983 historical draft with bogus players

Hi,

After I played the 1982-1983 season, the draft came, and it was full of Fictional players only. Will this continue to happen? I'm starting to trade away all my draft picks now because I only want real NHL players in my historical game.

Thank you.
