I have had enough pain when the Cubs collapsed in 1969. How can I replay the season so they at least make it to the World Series? Even if I have to replay a loss or change a players rankings>

First, start a historical game in 1969 and be the Cubs

Then you can play every game and not save it if you don't like the results
Or edit your players to all be super stars and hope for the best
Or combine those two methods

Thanks for the reply. Can I play one game at a time and not save it. Then replay it until I get a win?

How do you make your players superstars?

Play the game

If you don't like the result, dont exit the game but close it using the Task Manager

People have said that this will, sometimes, corrupt the file. So make sure you backup frequently

if you're interested in playing out most or all of the games, then do as CBeisbol has indicated. If, however, you're mainly interested in getting the playoffs and playing out only those games, then create your game and and save a backup before the season starts. Then auto-play until the last week or weekend of the season, and then...

A) If the Cubbies are in the race:
1) make another backup
2) play out their stretch runs games, and...
3) consider playing out the games of the other contenders in the NL East to make sure they lose (make stupid lineup decisions, etc.), to help ensure the Cubs advance.

B) If the Cubbies are not in the race, abandon the game and start over from either one of your backups

Doesn't seem to work. I closed the game in activity manager and all my previous games are deleted. The program has always saved the game automatically for me. I want to play each game individually.

I have never played OOTP on a Mac. I haven't used Mac much in the last 5 years

But, if you play a game you want to keep (or a SIM of games), you should be able to save after that game. Sounds like maybe you didnt.

Then if you play a game you don't want to keep, use the activity manager to close down the game without saving.

That should work

If not, you can backup the game after each game (or set of games) you want to keep, and then use the activity manager to shut down the game without saving. Reload from the back up, and try again,

Thanks for your all your help. I'll give it a try. I was 15 when they blew it at the end that year. I'm trying to right a teenage trauma!

OOTP 21 saves the games automatically. There is no option to not save a game. If I use activity manager to quit I lose the entire season up to that point

When using activity manager to quit the game, you should only lose what hasn't been saved since the last save. So let's say on June 29th you piloted the Cubs to victory. Save the game (File > Save Game). Then let's say on June 30th the Cubs lost and you want to play that game again. So if you use activity manager to kill the game, once you re-launch your game it should pick up where you left off, after the June 29th save.

Just to let you know, this is the OOTP 20 forum
There is a dedicated OOTP 21 forum

Also, I can see why the developers did that, but, it should be an option

Hey Hey Holy Mackerel It worked. Thanks Cbeisbol and thehef! Now I can reply the season and have it end on a happy note.

If you want to see the funniest video in Cub history go to You tube and type in Lee Elia rant. He was manager in 1983 and went off in the media after a 5-14 start. Complete with expletives.

Thanks again guys. Got the Cubs off to a 9-3 start 2 games up. Interesting thing is some match ups you can't win regardless of how many times you play.

What's the most times you played a game and didn't win?

The probability of flipping 0 heads in, say, 4 coin flips is 1/16. So, if your team was equal to your opponents (a 50/50) chance of winning, it would be expected to happen 10 times a season that you could play 4 times and lose all 4.

Probably 4 times, but I'll keep close track. If they don't win after 2-3 times its a loss. I don't want a 120 win season.

I wouldn't think you'd have to replay too many games in order to win the NL East. After all, the Pythagorean standings were:

Cubs 93-69
Mets 92-70
Bucs 89-73
Cards 88-74

So assuming none of the other three teams in your division significantly outpace expectations, and your Cubbies don't significantly underwhelm, you ought to be able to take the division with wins in the mid-90's, maybe with very few games needing to be replayed.

It doesnt take too much effort. I would create a game and backup, then sim a month at time. If the month is good results I will back up again. If it is a bad month, I reload a new game from the last backup. It usually only takes a me a few goes to get the result I want.
