never heard of em. and as much as I hate seeing hockey teams in areas where nobody plays the sport, i gotta admit: some of the real life southern teams did a good job of making it work. hey, now that I think about it, didn't Milwaukee's minor league hockey team started in 1970? maybe they can be the 5th starting team in the WHA EAST instead of Washington? |

Bring on that WHA, so Gretzky can start, and hopefully stay, in Indy.

Miami Screaming Eagles were supposed to be one of the original WHA teams, but it fell through when they couldn't find an arena. They ended up being the Philadelphia (later Vancouver) Blazers.

A. Create a separate conference for the WHA so they can seek to sign NHL players - the down side is they would be in the playoffs B. Create a separate save (ie a separate game) for the WHA so the leagues are independent. The only downside is no player raids. And yes we could vote on WHA teams. I have only 2 preconditions: 1. Winnipeg is in the WHA no question. I'm from there so they are in. 2. Miami Screaming Eagles are in - just cause I love the idea. (See also the Florida Breakers, Miami's 2nd near miss with the WHA. Miami also had 4 seni-pro teams in the Coral Gables Arena in 38-39. It only lasted one season |

1970-1971 Season in Review
Pittsburgh and Detroit win their divisions, but Toronto wins its third straight cup, defeating Cleveland. Buffalo may have set a mark in futility in a 70+ game schedule. 5 wins, 17 points and a -238 goal differential. On average they gave up 3 more goals than they scored. Buffalo's rookie Goalie Tommaso Botticelli finished with 1 win, 38 losses and a 5.67 GOA. His stats are below. Goalie Steve Hart of Cleveland is now our all-time shut out leader at 30. Mike England of Pittsburgh set a record for points in a season at 106. |

VOTE
With the WHA looking like a sure thing, the NHL panics and wants to fill up more cities and Cut the WHA off. The NHL will expand by 2 teams in 1972. The candidates are the actual cities that expressed at least some interest in the 72 expansion. Candidates are: 1. Long Island - this will prevent the WHA from getting access to a prime arena in the NY area: the new Nassau County Arena. 2. Atlanta - a booming southern city with teams in MLB, NFL and that basketball league. They've just built a new arena. The owners are there and are threatening to go to the WHA. 3. Baltimore - they're still trying even with Washington already in. But do we need 2 teams in that area? 4. Denver - arena isn't ready yet, they'd have to play in a smaller one to start, but would add a western team. 5. Kansas City - like Denver arena not ready yet but would be a western team. 6. Milwaukee - have a small arena and good hockey history. 7. San Diego - have an arena and could be a great rival to the Seals and Kings Remember to VOTE on WHA format A. Create a separate conference for the WHA so they can seek to sign NHL players - the down side is they would be in the playoffs B. Create a separate save (ie a separate game) for the WHA so the leagues are independent. The only downside is no player raids. We already have 1 vote for option A |

I vote for option a. in-universe, you can justify the WHA Teams being in the playoffs as them and the NHL agreeing to have the Stanley cup playoffs be between the NHL champions and the WHA Champions, just like back in the 10s and 20s.
I vote for Baltimore and...san Diego, actually. it's an intriguing market. wonder if hockey is gonna work in a third Californian market. also, because, like I posted, I want the islanders and Milwaukee to be In the WHA. Denver, as well...though I'm actually thorn on wether Denver should be in the NHL or the WHA anyways, the hypothetical WHA line up would be this: WHA EAST Quebec nordiques Ottawa senators Hartford whalers Milwaukee admirals (to be confirmed) Miami screaming eagles Atlanta thrashers/flames/whatever new York islanders WHA WEST Winnipeg jets Colorado Rockies (to be confirmed) Edmonton oilers Calgary stampede Seattle totems Los Angeles sharks Kansas city scouts (to be confirmed) damn, that's a strong line-up! |

Baltimore and San Diego, and go with Kinnik’s WHA format.

1) the sharks would already exist way before their real life year of birth. then, when the time comes, we can move them to San Jose. 2) If you want a national TV deal, new York and L.A are a must! |

The current arena in San Diego was brand new in 1966.

1971-1972 Season Review
Chicago and Pittsburgh won their division but it was Detroit beating Pittsburgh in the Final for their 6th cup. Detroit's Juraj Gazi led the league in assists and points and moved into 3rd all-time in goals and points. |

1972 NHL Expansion
We voted to create regional rivals for LA and Washington: Baltimore and San Diego are in! Both choose a maritime theme with Baltimore going for the Clippers and San Diego going for the Mariners. |
