Did you automatically expand?

Just curious. I finished the 2017 MLB season and found out that two new expansion teams --Austin and Memphis--had been added(I had checked expansion under league settings). Anyone else have automatic expansion so soon and what teams were added?

Noooooo!

I hate automatic expansion, because the game can't handle minor league expansion AT ALL.

I'm tending to agree and was caught by surprise at how soon it happened. I've since unchecked the expansion box.

I forgot to ask. Is there any way of undoing this through editing?

Can you go into detail on this? I am using automatic expansion but haven't looked deep enough into how they do it.

I'd be interested in seeing a poll. Actually, I'll create a poll myself if you're not opposed to the idea.

I had this happen a few versions ago. They added two teams after my first full season. Since them I've always turned expansion off if I'm playing the current year but keep it on for historical sims.

Sure. The teams are placed in geographically inappropriate places. You'll have things like AAA teams in weird little towns, Eastern League teams put in California, etc.

It know you need two single-A teams, but it can't differentiate between high-A and A, so it'll give you two teams in the South Atlantic League and no high-A team. Then it will do the same for the other team. Then it will put all four teams in the same division, throwing the Sally League all out of whack.

I should say it does all this if you manually expand, too. As soon as I expanded, I have to go and fix up the minor leagues.

Are these issues you've experienced in OOTP 17 or in earlier versions?

It happens in every version since OOTP 2007.

He is absolutely correct. It's something I automatically turn off in every league, because it just doesn't work worth a darn.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

I've noticed it every time I tried to expand MLB. The first time I can remember for sure seeing it was in 14. As bwburke pointed out it's actually been going on longer than that (I first bought the game with OOTP IX)

I've long since just accepted that this is how it is and put it down to limitations in the programming. As I said before, it's fixed with the editor.

As for automatic expansion, no. Much like Padrefan, I like to decide where and when to expand.

Even though I was told at the end of the 2017 season that in my MLB game the majors were expanding by two teams, I managed to negate this in the following way.
1. Went into league settings and unchecked the expansion box under evolution.
2. Also in league settings I went in to "Teams" and deleted the two new teams.
3. The day of the expansion draft, I limited drafting to one round and the draft stopped after four teams chose the same player, whom I placed back on his original team (under commissioner mode).
Hope this helps anyone who finds themselves in the same situation.

Any idea if fixing the automatic expansion is a priority for the OOTP staff?

This is why I turn off league evolution. I HAVE thought about manually adding two new teams, though, in Montreal and Mexico City.

If I want to do an expansion when is the ideal time to set it up? Any tips on making things work smooth would be appreciated.
