Storylines and Degree of Difficulty

Two quick questions.

1. How do you turn off news storylines? Is there a particular box you leave unchecked?

2. If you're playing a fictional league, is there a way to up the degree of difficulty for your team?

League Options, Global Setup, Misc Options, uncheck Enable Storylines

2. Two things I always do: 1) Turn OFF waivers or NEVER claim a player ever.
2) Make all trades 1 for 1 with trading difficulty set to hard.

House rules.

Trading restrictions, budget restrictions, rules about how to acquire players, etc. If you're looking to up the difficulty, just set restrictions for yourself and follow them.

There's also the flip side, the equivalent of the old Championship Manager "Lower League Challenge".

Start with a low-revenue team at the bottom of their on-field fortunes (e.g. the 30s St. Louis Browns) and take them all the way to the top, with a talent base to win titles and a financial base to support it over the years. In as little time as possible. Without rule exploits (i.e. yes, the trading AI has quirks, but that's part of the landscape, there are more questionable things like some sign-and-trade situations as a previous poster mentioned).

El Muneco,

Played Championship Manager, then Football Manager for many years. Lower league challenges were, for me, always, very difficult, although once I won promotion to the Premiership and the fans wanted to erect a statue to me. Got relegated the next year.
