Question about Starting an Online League

I'm trying to convince a couple of my friends to purchase OOTP-X because it is a fun game. They are baseball fans and know quite a bit about baseball (unlike me, who is new to the game).

The idea would be to create our own smallish "online" league which would be a little more interesting for us as a group.

Question: Can anyone start an "online" league?

Sure, anyone can. You minimally will need a method of getting the file out to everyone and a way for them to get their exports to you. Most online leagues use a FTP server for that, but if you are just a small group of friends, you might have other methods for it.

I have an online league of just 12 teams that has been great fun and very successful, so a smaller league is fully possible.

Thanks. Yes, we'd like to start with 12 teams, something small and managable like that. We'll probably have 2 human players to begin with. And we may add one or two more as we go along.

I don't know how an FTP server works. I guess I'll need to look into that.

"Using an FTP server" means having a webhost, and putting files online. It's not complicated, and you don't have to maintain the server yourself. It involves the Commissioner uploading a file onto the internet, and the owners downloading that same file, after every sim.

Alan T meant "using webhosting" when he said "using an FTP server."
