5-Hit Game for Podsednik:
Lions left fielder Scott Podsednik had his way with St. Mary's pitching today at George C. Page Stadium and mauled them for 5 hits in 5 at-bats. His efforts were all in vain, though, as the Gaels ruined his great day by toppling the Lions, 9-4. "I had a great day, but you've got to give St. Mary's credit, they did what they had to do to win," he told reporters after the game. "They weren't very impressed with my 5 hits." "Oh, we noticed what Podsednik did today," Gaels skipper Jeff Sergeant said. "He had quite a game. I can tell you this, we will pitch him a little differently the next time we face him." Scott Podsednik singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th. To date this season Podsednik is hitting .349 with 2 home runs. |

Puig Slams Milestone Homer:
The crowd roared -- they knew they were seeing history -- and Yasiel Puig was delighted, too. The 30-year-old Cornhuskers right fielder was making history with his 400th career homer. The crowd buzzed and roared again when Puig stuck his head out of the dugout for a curtain call. "Never, as a kid, did I ever think I'd hit even one," he told BNN after hitting No. 400 in a 10-5 victory over Indiana. Puig went 1-for-4 in the game, had 3 RBI, and scored 1 run. As far as career numbers Puig has compiled a .290 batting average and collected 1585 hits, 400 home runs and 973 RBIs. |
