Me too. My favorite player ever. Except...I imagine that aside from the back pain that season was especially painful to Donnie Baseball. Though he is exile from paradise managing the Marlins now. Is there no universal justice?

This is a GREAT idea for a league. But no Cleveland Spiders of 1997?

I watched or listened to every game of that awful 1990 season of the Yankees. When Andy Hawkins pitched a no-hitter and lost 4-0 it was a low of all low points.

'course, a few years later we more than made up for it. But oh man, those were hard years to bear with.

30-New York Yankees (1990 / 67-95 (.414) / run diff.: -146)

Thanks for this list. I am thinking I may need to start a new league with these teams but run a fantasy draft of only players from these teams, maybe a 24-team league, and then go random debut for the drafts after that. Maybe start during WWII, so that the historical year quality is also about right anyway.

If the core group of that 1980's Angel team was about 5 years younger they wouldn't be in this tournament instead it's like old timers day

The 1899 Cleveland Spiders definitely belong into the discussion of the worst teams ever - even though it wasn't all their fault. Many of their star players (Cy Young, Jesse Burkett) were transferred to the St. Louis Browns because both teams had the same owner and he thought the St. Louis team would draw greater attendance. That's the main reason why the Spiders went 20-134 in 1899 after going 81-68 in 1898.

I wanted to keep this simple and so I came up with the idea of using the worst season for each of the current franchises over the last 100 years. But that meant no Cleveland Spiders
