New IBF champ!

Frank LoPorto won the IBF JMW belt from Anthony Small via an 8th round cut TKO. Frank was ahead on all 3 cards, 67-66 @ the time of the stoppage & had a 196 to 158 PL lead too.

Small said afterwards it figures they'd take his title away this way & wished all Aussies an unhappy holiday season.

Small drops to 8-1 with 6 KO's.

Andy Kolle ends 2011 with a bang as he destroys Alejandro Berrio with a body shot to end matters in the 3rd round.

Berrio is the defending IBO SMW champ & dropped down to 160 to get a shot @ Kolle's WBO MW belt.

Kolle now moves to 5-0 with 4 KO's. It was the 2nd defense of his title he took from Renan St. Juste by UD. In his 1st defense he stopped WBO JMW champ (Tokunbo Olajide) by TKO in 11 rounds.

Big things could be in store in 2012 for Kolle as he's 2-0 (2 KO's) vs. other champs.

6 Heads Lewis made the 4th defense of his WBO WW belt in the Bell Centre with a brutal 14th round TKO of Jo Jo Dan. Dan hit the deck 6 times over the 14 rounds & had no answer for the power of the champ. PL @ time of the stoppage was 396 to 244 for the champ & 127-114 twice & 127-116 were the scores of the 3 judges.

Lewis moves to 31-4-1 with 25 KO's.

In what could be a strong contender for fight of the year, England's Mark Rowe won a 12 UD over Kevin Perry - all 3 judges scoring the bout, 110-108 for the former IBO MW champ.

Rowe lost his belt to current champ, Danny Jacobs, by a 6th round TKO in late 2010. This was Rowe's 1st fight back & was facing another huge puncher in the fearsome Perry. Perry moved up to 160 after challenging IBO JMW champ, Fernando Vargas. Vargas destroyed Perry last May, knocking him out in the 3rd round.

Both Rowe & Perry hit the canvas 5 times each in this slug fest, PL were 222 to 220 in favor of Rowe. Neither fighter sounded anxious for a rematch, each preferring to face someone with less punching power in their next fight.

Rowe would like a crack @ current IBF champ (Wayne Alexander) - the man Rowe took the IBO belt from years ago via a 12th round TKO. With the win, Rowe moves to 8-1 (7 KO's).

Kelvin Davis defended his IBF CW title for the 3rd time with a one punch KO over Grigory Drozd.

A right cross late in the 2nd round iced Drozd on a cold Russian winter night. Drozd came into the fight with a 10-0 record, all by KO's & was expected to give the sturdy, compact champion a tough fight/night but it was not to be.

Tokunbo Olajide proved he's still a force to be dealt with @ 154 with an impressive 8th round KO of Yuri Foreman. Olajide picked up the NABO belt in his 2nd fight @ 154 since being stopped in 11 rounds by Andy Kolle in a bid to win his WBO MW title.

This was Yuri's 1st fight back since being knocked out in the 8th round last August by IBF JMW champ, Anthony Small.

Olajide moves to 13-1 (11 KO's) & Foreman falls to 4-2 (0 KO's)

Spain's Gabriel Campillo won the IBF LHW belt from Zsolt Erdei via a 15th round combo KO.

Hungary's Erdei was making the 1st defense of his IBF LHW belt vs.Campillo.

Erdei came into the fight with a 15-1 (13 KO's) record. His lone loss to France's Christophe Tiozzo by 15 UD for the vacant IBO belt. Erdei came into the bout with a 13 fight winning streak.

Gabriel moves to 5-0 with 1 KO & needed the KO due to the fact he was down on all 3 cards: 131-135 twice & 132-134 despite having a PL lead of 407 to 243.

Super Zab!

Judah retained his IBF JWW crown for the 2nd time with an 11th round TKO of the fearsome Marcos Maidana. Zab was up 97-92 on all 3 cards when the stoppage came shortly after a rib shot dropped Marcos for an 8 count. A left cross dropped Marcos in the 6th as well. Zab landed 51% of his punches to only 14% for Marcos & had a 367 to 153 PL advantage.

With the win, Zab moves to 24-4-1 with 17 KO's, Maidana drops to 10-1, 9 KO's.

Berrio bounces back from this disaster late last year when he dropped down to 160. Berrio made the 4th defense of his IBO SMW belt with a 1st round KO destruction of Tony Quigley.

Berrio said after the fight he'd gladly fight Kolle in a rematch for his belt @ 168!

Cory Spinks defended his WBO JMW strap for the 2nd time with a hard fought, 15 MD over Mexican hardman, Alfredo Angulo. In a much closer decision than anticipated based on the PL during the fight, Cory held on with 2 judges giving him the edge 143-142 & 144-143. The 3rd had it 144-144.

Spinks had the PL edge, 459 to 239 with Cory landing 42% of his punches & Angulo @ 19%.

Angulo drops to 10-1 with 10 KO's.

In a surprising turn of events, Matthew Macklin captured the IBF MW belt from Wayne Alexander due to a cut in the 14th round.

Wayne dominated the bout, dropping Macklin 4 times & was ahead on all 3 cards (125-117, 124-118 & 125-119) when the end came. Wayne was also ahead in PL: 355-264.

Macklin improves to 8-0 (7 kos) & Wayne drops to 11-4 @ MW.

Herol Graham made the 2nd defense of his WBA MW belt with a 15UD over Alfonso Gomez. (144-142, 146-141, 146-140).

Herol out punched Gomez 396-326. Gomez is my current IBF WW champ but moved up to 160 to take a crack @ the MW belt. He'll drop back down to 147 for a June title defense.

Jesus Gonzalez proved his gaudy 12-0 record (12 KO's) was no fluke with a 6 round destruction of IBO MW champ, Daniel Jacobs. For some reason Daniel came into the fight soft & it proved to cost him dearly against the big punching Jesus.

A rib shot in the 6th (to Daniel's soft body) ended the fight & moved Jesus to 13-0. Jacobs drops to 12-2 (7 KO's). Daniel hasn't looked as sharp since last July with his impressive 6th round TKO of the previously unbeaten David Lemieux. Jesus was ahead 49-46 on all 3 cards.

Librado Andrade moved to 14-1 with a 12 UD over Thomas Hearns to win the NABF SMW belt. Andrade's only loss (2nd round TKO) was to Hearns years ago in his bid for the WBC belt.

That was using an older rating of Andrade & he pined for a rematch using his 9 rating with 1 KDR 1.

It took 2 knockdowns in the 12th for Andrade to pull out the decision (115-111, 114-112, 114-113). Andrade also won the 11th on all the cards 10-9 to complete the rally.

Hearns drops to 20-3-1 losing his 3rd fight in a row after being stopped by both Balzhay to lose his WBC belt & Kessler last June in his bid to win the WBA belt.

Hearns asked Andrade for a rematch to settle the series. His trainer (Manny Steward) wasn't so sure & thinks it may be time for Thomas to hang up the gloves based on his last 3 fights/losses.

Alejandro Berrio made his 5th IBO SMW defense against another hapless opponent with a 2nd round KO of the over matched, Aaron Jaco.

Berrio dropped Jaco with an uppercut early in the 2nd round & ended matters with a combo.

Berrio moves to 14-1 (14 KO's) @ 168 - his lone loss @ SMW via a decision.

Miguel "Pink Socks" Cotto continues his rampage through the JMW division, this time with a 6th round KO of 2 time (IBO & IBF) MW champ, Wayne Alexander. Wayne shot back to the top of the MW division last Sept with his shocking 3rd round KO blowout of IBF defending champ, Sebastian Sylvester.

Wayne having gone 15 rounds to lose by decision to Kelly Pavlik & won the IBO MW belt over Arthur Abraham via a 14th round cut TKO.

Wayne's mistake was thinking he was too big & strong moving down to 154. In the fatal 6th, Wayne cornered Cotto in the corner & after a left & right miss, a Cotto counter combo ended the fight 2:42 of the round.

It's Miguel's 3rd KO in a row in defense of his WBA belt.

Harry Simon won his 2nd title @ 160 via a 13th round TKO of the rugged Marco Antonio Rubio for the vacant WBO belt.

Simon lost his IBF MW title last year by decision to Sebastian Sylvester in May of 2011.

In a brutal, give & take affair, Simon finally proved too strong for Rubio in the 13th with 2 KD's & the beating Rubio suffered along the ropes caused the ref to end the fight. Simon now moves to 16-1 @ 160. Simon outpunched Rubio 366 to 225 & had a 46% connect % to 25% for Rubio. Simon was also ahead on all 3 cards: 116-112, 115-113 & 116-111.

Simon has a 9-1 record @ 154 (his lone loss to WBA champ Davey Moore by UD years ago). Simon might now drop back down to JMW to claim a strap @ the lower weight.

150 lb catchweight bout

Amir Khan gained 10 lbs & Anthony Small lost 4 so they could meet @ 150. Amir wanted the fight after Small called out Khan in real & said he wasn't a true Muslim.

Despite being dropped for a count of 3, Khan won a 12 SD: 115-113, 114-113, 113-114 & out punched Small 277 to 232. Khan landed 51% of his punches.

Small said the loss didn't matter, he landed the bigger shots & isn't meant to fight @ 150!
