My OOTP comments on another forum
A question was asked about baseball sims, which ones that you prefer and why, and this was my response:
Oh yeah, what do I like about OOTP? There are soooo many ways to play, so many things to look at, so many things to do! I play with a combination of fictional and real players. When I heard about a sim game with fictional players, I was completely turned off; I had a closed mind. After a while, you become so immersed in your season that it doesn't really matter if they are fictional or real. Right now, with just a few games left in my current season, Manny Ramirez leads the one league in homers with 47, in the other, Rafael Palmeiro is tied with David Haynes; each has 40. Haynes is a completely fictional player. William Day is 19-4 and has the most wins in his league with at least one more start left, totally fictional player. Addie Joss, though, is next in wins at 18-9, 3.27 ERA. Addie, of course, was a phenomenal pitcher in his time in the early 1900's. J.R. Richard is a closer this time around and a dominant one at that. This season, Richard has 44 saves, a 1.73 ERA in 72 2/3 innings of work with 102 K's and a 0.92 WHIP. Bruce Sutter is in that same league. Sutter's numbers: 1.47 ERA in 73 2/3 innings with 98 K's, a 0.73 WHIP and 39 saves (1 blown save!). The one time league ace, Joe Blong , has had 6 300+ strikeout seasons. He is a real player. He pitched for 3 seasons back in the late 1800's!!! He had a career 2.95 ERA and fanned a grand total of 62 batters in 320 1/3 innings. You can never tell how players will perform in this game depending upon your settings but that is an aspect of the game that I absolutely love. Tony Gwynn has won numerous batting titles but he is now beginning to fade. I am now officially hooked. |
