What are Jim Unknown's ratings?

In a cap tourney, is it better to have any real player than a blank roster spot? In other words, is Pete Gray a better hitter than Jim Unknown? Is Mitch Harris a better pitcher than Jim Unknown?

heh.... he is quite versatile... he can hit... he can play the field (every position)... he can throw... he can pitch as a starter or reliever or closer.... tempted to suggest a 1000 cap tourney for a 25 man Jim Unknown roster and see how they do

My dull answer: it depends. If the AI is using that 40 RP to eat up innings in a losing cause, thus keeping your bullpen fresh for the next games, then it's better than a blank spot. But if the AI cannot avoid high leverage and uses that guy to blow leads, then Jim is the better option.

I just lost to a SP with 18 Stamina who threw 85 pitches in 5 innings. I'm starting to wonder if stamina is the rating (at least for SP) that matters least of all in keeping your bullpen fresh.

So if my team does not qualify Jim Unknown will fill the gaps?

In my one experience, I lost a 7-game series 2 games to 4 to a team chock full of Jim Unknowns along with a some excellent gold pitching (in a 1625 cap tourney). I clicked on a few Jim Unknowns on the roster and real players showed up! I remember Aurelio Lopez and Don Mattingly in a Catcher role.

I beat a team in a Live Gold tournament that was only half filled. A Jim Unknown that looks a lot like Bob L. Johnson (81 OVR LF for the Philly A's) came in to pitch the final 3 2/3 innings. It is also worth noting that the Jim Unknown playing CF went 0 for 2 with 2 walks, which is pretty good if it really was southpaw SP Bobby Shantz and his 24 eye.
