It's Septmeber -- Gut my 1st place AAA team or let them go after a title
OK, it's Sept. 2, 2024, and my St. Louis River Walkers (70-68) are 5.5 games out of first place with 24 games to go.
My AAA team in Memphis(78-52) is in first place, albeit by a game with eight games left in my season. Do I gut their roster in order to get some players some pinch-hitting opportunities and late-game innings as I look to make a run at a division title? Or should I let them play out their season, and than make the call-ups? My gut tells me,let them finish what they started and than give them the chance to show what they can do with the big club. |

To me, it depends if you need the help on the MLB roster — you’re still in that thing but time is of the essence!

Gut them. Winning a triple AAA title won’t save your job, making the playoffs with the big league team will.
Gut that team for all you can |

Exactly. Your first priority is the MLB team. If there are guys in AAA who can help you win you need to promote them.

Call up the guys who can help you win, but don't call up every single guy on the 40-man roster. Patch up the Triple-A roster with guys from Double-A or minor league free agents. That's exactly how teams operate in real life who are in that situation, and it works in OOTP, too.

I think has a lot to do with your OOTP gaming philosophy.
I agree with many others here that the logical thing to do, in terms of game play, is to bring up any AAA players who might help your big league club make the playoffs. And that there is very little significant value in having your AAA club win it all. (Yes, winning improves morale and a happier player is likely a player getting better development boosts- but if they can win at the big league level, well, all the better!) Now, having said that, I don't take a purely pragmatic approach to these things. I generally try to find a middle ground in such matters as it adds to the immersion for me and I like to balance out head and heart. My gut tells me much the same as yours- that the AAA club and the players on it deserve a chance to end their season with a championship. So if both my big league club and my AAA club are competing for first I will usually try to balance out the needs of both clubs and bring at least a few key players- especially at positions the big league club could use help at and the AAA club might have some excess at- to the parent club but leaving some others down at AAA just until they reach the end of their season and then bring them up for a week or two to the big league club. Now, if you play slowly- day by day- as I do, you can always monitor things down at AAA and make decisions on a fluid basis about promotions. Edit: So while I was typing all of this BIG17EASY pretty much said something similar but more succinctly. And yes, I also tend to promote throughout the minor league system after September 1st call-ups, so the best prospects at AA who are ready for promotion will have a chance to help the AAA club win their pennant.
