Making your players coaches
One of my favorite things to do in the game is to take players and turn them into coaches. When a favorite player of mine gets to the age where he is no longer useful, instead of taking him out back and putting a slug in his head while he dreams about rabbits, I retire him, convert him to a coach, and give him a nice cushy jobs in the minors. For the sake of realism I usually limit this to players with good leadership and intelligence ratings, but in some cases if I know they have the personality for it in real life, I simply adjust their stats.
A new coach usually has pretty bad ratings, so I will adjust those stats to reflect what I think they might be proficient at. My personnel now include: Justin Morneau (Bench Coach in the majors) Roy Halladay (Pitching Coach, majors) Brett Anderson (Pitching Coach, AAA) Shin-So-Choo (Hitting Coach, AA) Felix Hernandez (Pitching Coach, AA) Ichiro (Batting Coach, Single A) (If I ever get desperate, I can just unretire all these guys and throw them onto the field. ) Does anyone else do this? Also, which player of today do you think will be the Don Mattingly or Mike Scoscia of tomorrow? Which of today's stars will become tomorrow's managers or coaches? |
